I've been looking around for some camera support that will get me by for the next couple of months cause I have some shoots lined up. I'd like to make sure that I get the right size cage that can accommodate my Mark II and Scarlet when it comes out.

Does anyone have any ideas or happen to know the exact measurements of a Scarlet brain?

-These images have been floating around but it really doesn't do me any good trying to guess.

-This maybe a hard question to answer but I thought I'd throw it out there...

-These are the cages I'm looking at...

I've read that the Small Uni-Struts measure 7.500 center to center

Here's a review of the rig with more pictures, it may not fit or it could be perfect.

Just making sure before I drop the dough.

Thanks

There's no reason why it won't fit. The rig seems to have a lot of flexibility anyway. Of course, I am just guessing from the pictures we have seen thus far, but if I were you, I would safely go ahead and buy it.

I ended up getting the small struts, it should be big enough to hold a Scarlet I hope. If not I'll have to invest in the medium strut for when the time comes, it'll set me back $120. I'm pretty impressed with it's overall performance especially for under $600 with follow focus and Manfrotto quick release.

Below is my rig that I got off his eBay store and saved $50 compared to his official website.

I don't really understand that rig. Forgive my ignorance, I'm pretty clueless so far on filmmaking tools, I'm just starting to get into it.

It seems that the whole point of these VDSLRs is the extremely small size, why triple its size? What do those side handles give you that the built in grip doesn't? What's the point of a follow focus on a camera so small you can very easily reach the focus ring on the lens?

I am going to have to add to Lee's skepticism...

We have seen the Epic with just a top mount, and it seems more than adequate for positioning since it has many connections on the top of the body.

The rigs you're describing have an inherent limitation: VDSLRs only have a mount at the bottom. In order to add flexibility to their system, a rig must be added. I wouldn't count on this being the case with Scarlet since it was designed with these things in mind.

The purpose of a follow focus has nothing to do with how small the camera is or how easy the lens is to reach. The camera operator usually does not pull his own focus, the focus puller does. This is infinitely easier to do with an FF. Without one, there is no where to put your marks. No where to attach a whip, etc.
