Hi everyone!

Would like some thoughts on this matter.

I am considering some options to shoot television on. Usually reality. I have considered to buy Sony F3, because it is "good enough" to it´s use, and for my use. BUT. I am also considering waiting for the Scarlet to come out, because it is a better camera.

I usually work independent with a Sony EX1 with a microphone on camera, and a litepanel. I interview the subjects myself with this setup, and it works, it´s ok. We use it as a quick turnaround camera, that is mobile and can be carried around for a whole day. But i want to invest in some equipment to rent out with me on theese kind of jobs. So i am curious on the Scarlet for this purpose.

Is the sensor size on the Scarlet decided and "locked"?
Do anyone know the range on the zoom that it comes with?
Do anyone know how the DOF will be....? I mean , when you shoot reality you gotta turn around quickly and shoot.
Will you have the posibility to control the zoom with a remote solution? I mean on a handheld rig, and have a control on the right or left side of the grips?
And the same with the focus, do you think Red has some kind of solution for a remotefocus that you can put on your handheld grips?
Will the HDRx be possible on Scarlet?
It would be nice to have a option on the lens, like 2 different zooms you can change between. But it is not a possibility? The zoom that is on this camera can´t be changed right?

I have also considered to use the Epic-s with a nice canon zoom setup, but for now, maby best to start with Scarlet?

Would be nice to hear some thoughts on this.. Anyone else considering this for use in shooting television?

Thanks

Øystein

Scarlet has a 2/3" format sensor shooting native 2:1 cinema ratio at full frame or 16:9 HD format cropped.

Zoom range is equivalent to 28mm-224mm on a FF35 still camera. Exact focal lengths haven't been posted but it would fall somewhere around 7.5mm-60mm range

It will have the DOF characteristics of a 2/3" format video camera or 16mm film camera.

Will you have the posibility to control the zoom with a remote solution? I mean on a hand held rig, and have a control on the right or left side of the grips?

Yes. May require the pro I/O module

?

Scarlet fixed lens is not interchangeable. It can be fitted with aftermarket wide angle and tele converters like the EX1 can.

Scarlet Cinema 2/3" will be the interchangeable lens version. With different lens mounts it will support Red mini-PL mount, Arri PL mount 16mm/s16mm cinema lenses, C-mount, and B4 HD mount for broadcast servo zoom lenses, as well as Canon and Nikon mounts for still lenses.

Thanks for info!

Is there a difference i specs between the cinema and the fixed version?
Resolution on both is?
The dynamic range?

Maby a scarlet Cinema is a better choice then, if i also can mount broadcast servo zoom lenses on it or maby some nice Canon glass!

Can i read about the I/O module somewhere?

Thanks!

I'd figure out when you need to start your project and assess what camera is available at that point. Then look at comparable footage and workflows for your given situation and then make a decision. The realistic availability of the Scarlet for most people is Spring 2012, almost a year a way.
