I just finished a shoot over a couple months with over 1 TB of footage, and when it was brought into editing, there were a couple spots where this "glitching" was occuring on the LEFT side of my footage.. the glitch would be in certain frames, and would last about 5 consecutive different clips. and then would go away... It ruined about 15 different shots total. So not very many, but what the hell.. what is this and why is it occurring??? I was shooting for a pig farm/grain company, tons of industrial equipment, and some dust and dirt... but kept the camera away from it for the most part. Has anyone else had this problem?

That is definitely a 'send a log to RED' type of issue. Most likely have to send the camera in too.

It has happened multiple days of offloading,
my editor doesn't use ac power for offloading the mag, could this be an issue? The mag reader is plugged in only through a FireWire 800 cable, no ac power

check the connection of the SSD module. If its not seeded well, this is usually the case.

Jake.
This looks like a bad transfer/offloading error. If you have the original RED Mag, try transferring the files again. Make sure you use a date transfer/verify program to transfer and compare the two set of files (as well as visually inspecting the files.)

Curious - how was he screwing it up?

He imported the footage onto his computer, then took that footage and copied it to one hard drive, then copied that footage to another hard drive, then edited off the 3rd copy. Somewhere along that journey it caused the footage to be messed up. I took the Mag, ran it through my Mac Pro with the mag reader plugged in with an AC power source, checked the clips, and they appeared fine. :confused5:

Thanks for the update Jake. This is totally a "More You Know..." thing, as I always thought it was a sensor error when the footage has that magenta patchwork glitch stuff. So, yeah, good to know!

Just to confirm the result here, we had the same problem with Epic footage a while back. Sometimes as much as half a frame knocked out with the same kind of purple-matrix business, or just a large pink square.

Checksum re-transfer of the files sorted it out - camera sensor 100% fine.
