Hello everyone,

As a first-time RED owner with my new Scarlet-X EF-Mount kit, I was wondering how people would advise pricing the camera for casual rental, and what others will be charging.

Very shortly I will be one of the first in the UK to have the EF-mount Scarlet and wondered how much was typically acceptable to charge for the added value of a having new, currently rare, and very desirable camera.

Thanks for any opinions!

P.S. It looks like VMI in London is planning to charge £450 for the PL mount version once theirs arrives, although this will also come with a lot more accessories than the basic package. http://vmi.tv/equipment/1/cameras/766/red-scarlet-5k-provisional

Remember, when someone hires a camera, s/he rents much more than just the body. S/he rightfully expects experience, professionalism and help. S/he expects a backup solution should equipment fail. S/he will expect a complete, configurable package.

Some people will just look for price, and there will be a bottom feeding market for them. Generally, this will be more trouble than worth the money.

If you are in early in the game, you can make some money off the novelty factor - or you could try figuring out a fair price, and build longer lasting customer relationships.

Remember, that you will need a different type of insurance if you plan on rent out your equipment.

There are plenty of threads about this subject in older R1 threads. Maybe someone else can dig them out for you - it is 2.30 a.m. and I have to get to bed here :)

One of the only published rental prices I've seen is a highly respected rental/production company in Melbourne that is renting their Scarlet kit for $500 day. This is for the body, Red 17-50, follow focus, 64GB SSD, RedStation, 8 x Redvolts, O grips, head and legs.

This is a pretty damn good deal.

Looking at the kit you linked in the U.K., that's a very complete kit, with over $10k worth of additional accessories.

Also they can back it up and probably replace anything that fails in no time flat. This is one of the things rental companies have over individuals, options, service and backup.

Within weeks I think the world will be flooded with Scarlets, and everyone will know someone who owns one so the time is RIGHT NOW if you want to capitalise on exclusivity.

The average price range I've seen in the US is about $400-$600US/Day for a basic package.
