How many purchased RED ARMOR for your Scarlet camera? Warranty extra 2-years? I believe it worth it, I think.

Debating...???

I got it on mine, I was hopping whenreceived the camera it came with a warranty paper to tell me whats 1,500 covered on the camera but didn't so still wondering whats covered exactly.

I got it too. I think it's worth it. It covers labor and parts, except theft and accidents of course.

What happens if you upgrade to Dragon? Does the RED Armour get re-upped, or null or just continues on the same duration? Also, does anyone know if it's like AppleCare; where you can purchase it any time within the first year to get the additional two years?

REDArmor is only available at the time of purchase.

When it was first introduced, it was available within the first year (do a thread search on it and you'll see a lot of debate).

No idea on the Dragon.

Semiconductors exhibit a 'bath tub' shaped curve of mortality in their life cycle. High infant mortality (say 1st 90 days), then it drops down to very low mortality, and then after a large number of years, the mortality rate climbs again. Of course there are moving parts like fans that wear out and labor costs to replace them inside the tightly packed device, but ... if your Scarlet's electronics last the first year, they should stay healthy for quite a while. As to the sensor itself, which if memory serves comes with a 90 day warranty, it may be more fragile or be damaged by bright light, I'm not sure about that? Maybe someone else will chime in?

Crap. It *kind* of makes sense to have the additional coverage option available within the first year as I think a lot of people get tapped out (wallet-wise) by their Epic/Scarlet purchase... it's not like the coverage is any longer. Anyway, thanks for the heads-up.

After a lot of angst over this issue for me it really came down to the question ....Do I intend to own & use this camera for more than a year. My answer was yes so I grit my teeth & did it. Mind you it ain't cheap but neither is the camera system when you add it all up.

Still on the fence with us. We really don't see the need for it. If it doesn't break down in the first 90 days - you're good. That's my opinion. Much like Apple.

I'm buying on Master Card, which will double the manufacturer warranty up to 1 additional year for a warranty of 3 years or less. Repair or replacement not exceeding $10,000 per occurrence, $50,000 lifetime 800-874-7702.

Even if you buy the RED ARMOR, an extra year for free is appealing?

Thanks for the tip, Les

Does that mean you have to place the entire payment on MC?

RED Armor covers dragon. Or so my Bomb Squad rep told me.

I'd get that in writing.

I had several emails on the topic and that is not the "simple" answer I got. Dragon will have a separate RED Armor which, yes, you have to buy at the time of the upgrade. There are other threads on REDuser about this which might offer some insight.
