Hey  people,

I am trilled about the new product gamma of RED and I think is revolutionary in history. RED has changed the face of modern filmmaking and leaves all the other major bloodsucking cameraproducers far behind. It's the beginning of a new age.

To the point now:

If prices are like announced I'am deffently going to order a SCARLET with changebel lensses. But It leaves me with e few technical questions like.

- Can I switch from 3K recording to 1080p or 720p on the camera 2/3 scarlet for space saving, or do I need to downconvert it in final cut.

- When they speak about upgrading my scarlet later on, is that means that I can upgrade my camera body from 2/3 to S35 o FF35 by changing the front plate and buying another mysteriumX 5 or 6 K? , will the parts be available to change yourself then? plug and play? that would be far out!

- If I shoot on 3K is this raw 3K? or is it allready downscalled in SCARLET

I'am blond and stupped you know.

Hi Katty,

To answer your first question: I don't know. I think the previous Scarlet (version 1.0) was capable of downconverting in camera, but I have heard nothing regarding that yet.

As for upgrading Scarlet - if you decide you want to shoot with the s35 sensor, you will need to purchase a new "brain" or camera body. It appears that you can purchase a new mount plate (so buy the s35 mount plate and attach to the 2/3" Scarlet), but that would not be the same as shooting on the s35 sensor.

The 3k that Scarlet will shoot is considered "RAW" in that you can adjust exposure, ISO in post, but there is still compression going on in camera so that the file sizes aren't out of control. But yes, the 3k will yield you a full sized image that you can then downscale in post...

Question

Question

Hey Jason,

Thanks for the reply. I know some more know.

I had some other technical question that plays on my mind for a wile, and
I was always wondering why the image of the RED looks so smooth and softer, so more cinelike then the useal digital cameras, seeking technical sheets I figured out something, so does anyone knows If the RED uses a
' Low-pass filter' in front of the mysterium? kind a like they use in digital reflex photocameras? I loved the image of the RED from the first time I saw it and that is what I noticed wright away.

O, I almost forgot, does anyone knows witch type would be best in low light situations 2/3 or s35. Is it true the bigger the CCD the better shooting in low light or is this a roumer.

I do consider the S35 but than agian I think I will mis the 120fp for super slow-mo.

Just curiuosity.:greedy:

Hi Katty,

bigger pixel size is better for low light because it create less noise
fixed Scarlet 3.2 Microns
S35 5.4 Microns
But I hope that 3K Scarlet will still keep very well in low lite. We must wait for testing footage for proof.

I think that with CCD you mean "sensor". Put more precisely
all RED technology is based on CMOS sensors like still cameras and not on CCD.

S35 is nice but I love 120fps. It's must for me. Quite amazing feature.

Nevermind Katty, we are all learning including Jim and Red team

As Jim said S35 with higher fps is simply Epic because then it creates more heat, it need more power, and more capable electronics. So it needs bigger body too. That's it.
At least we must wait till summer or whole year

Girls with camera are cool :w00t:
