Hi,

I'm not sure if i get something wrong...but why are the Scarlet Dragon Prices above the Scarker-W
Prices in the RED Store?

Thanks.

Cheers

Also there are large entities, schools, government, military, corporations that have to make purchase requests months in advance and it is hard to get things changed between request and actual order so it makes sense for the manufacturer to leave it as is for a while even if there are new products that might seem to replace it. Also there are times when people want two or more matching cameras, even if the new is a little better/cheaper.

@Michael on what earth does one (other then Red) release a new product that's far FAR better than the the one it's replacing and not lower
the price on the older product. The scarlet Dragon data rates are far lower, The new body has far better compression, ProRes, Wi-fi, better noise floor,
overall better image, runs cooler ETC. Where as the Scarlet dragon although price much higher has non of this...further more you can get a WHOLE scarlet W
package for the price of a scarlet dragon brain/side SSD/lens mount lmao...... So explain to me again why on gods green earth would you leave a far inferior camera listed for way more money? It's like going to the Mercedes lot and picking a 2013 S550 over a 2016 S550 ohhhh Mercedes would have discounted the 2013 because the 2016 is a better car lmbo.....

LOL - On THIS earth, RED does exactly that. It's been done before. IIRC, the RED One stayed for sale after Epic was released and the price was not reduced. You can question the logic all you want. And you can whine and complain, but what's your point? The price, as listed, is what you will pay if you want to buy a Scarlet Dragon. If you don't think it's a good deal, you don't buy it. I agree with you, the Scarlet-W makes much more sense for a new buyer.

From RED's perspective, I doubt they think they are really going to sell any more units of this camera. They are moving forward to the DSMC2 line and want new buyers to go there. As others have pointed out, if some production desperately needs a Scarlet Dragon to match something they are already shooting or there is some other extenuating circumstance, maybe they'll order one. Personally, I sincerely doubt there are very many Scarlet Dragons sitting on a shelf at RED. The fact that it is still in the catalog means very little except that they haven't revamped the web site lately. (Which is coming up, I think.)

well for one thing you can actually buy that camera right now.

I'm sure RED will probably at some point either have a fire sale of MX's/Scarlet D's, much like before, but who knows when that would be. They could also donate the allotment to a school or several schools. RED is good like that. But like others have mentioned, I'd buy DSCM2 before buying a Scarlet D.

I recall Red one MX cameras were available at the red store at full price for a loooooong time... Until they decided it was time to sell them as battle tested for $4,000. RED keep reapeating them self in these sort of things. As soon the Scarlet-W is wiedely available (In Stock) at red.com . I'm sure in the next few week they will start selling Scarlet-D for about $7,000

I think the MX (redone) senario was somewhat of an anomaly. The more recent camera building & delivery process is probably more in REDs favor, allowing them to draw down modestly against old inventory demands as they ramp for new models. The notion of thousands of old cameras (old stock or new) sitting around in a warehouse is probably misleading.

Not to say there will not be battletested units, just not in the volumes that would initiate cannibalism.

It also protects the people that bought into RED.
You want to buy a used one, the price of a new one is the reference price. It the price would drop with the announcement of a new model, your camera is immediately worth less.

Car prices are based on a ridiculous system of high depreciation and should not be used as an example. Why a MY15 car identical to a MY16 should cost less? Consumers are the ones taking a hit on the value of their property, and car manufacturer use it to drive prices up.

Not complaining but his question was why does the Scarlet-W priced LOWER then the Scarlet Dragon... I guess it doesn't have to make sense to us lol.

RED wants to stay competitive is why. I'm sure if they thought everyone would pay 20K for the Scarlet-W that's exactly what they'd charge. They want to sell as many W cameras as possible. So they can sell as many new accessories as possible. I don't like it but it makes sense to me.
