  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet preview...

I strongly believe scarlet will have side handle because it is necessary for hand held shooting(remember DSMC and still photos need some sort of balanced/side handle) however scarlet mat have fixed side handle instead of removable.

I am not sure why people are after only 2/3 sensor. when you have a s35 5k camera you can use it in 2k mode and it will give you that 2/3 looks and of course ease of focusing. by having s35 we will have option of both a nice professional bokeh and sports/documentary style run and gun camera.

everything is modular, this wouldn't be realistic just because the whole system is about options. plus 3d options would get quite ridiculous. everything is modular

This is unlikely to have any bearing on the Scarlet to be revealed on Thursday, but i keep thinking about something Jim said about multiple focus cameras like the Lytro plenoptic. If you look at the demo on this site: http://lightfield.stanford.edu/aperture.swf?lightfield=data/chess_lf/preview.zip&zoom=1 and shift the artificial aperture from the left side of the field to the right, you will get two viewpoints apparently a few inches apart, which when combined could result in a parallax effect. This struck me as a possible way to shoot 3D with a single camera. If so, would that not be rather revolutionary?

S35 is fine, might even be an option, but would be significantly more expensive. I would rather shoot 3k at 2/3" than 2k.

This is bullcrap. Joseph Hutson has already had a Scarlet out in the wild shooting to SSD, not CF.

That is correct ...in fact on the world premier of the Scarlet shoot you can clearly see the SSD module on the side of the Scarlet Body...

That was a prototype. I don't know anything, but things may have changed.

We know Red, they like to change things for the better.

Nov. 3rd!!!! All will be answered.

Yeah and RED never changes their specs or delivery times ever.

Yes - but so far, spec changes have all been improvements. Plus, they've abandoned further CF cards, and the current ones are less cost effective than the SSDs (in terms of $/GB). I don't see them reverting back to CF.

It's safe to say the Scarlet release will be Epic in some fashion! The wait is driving me nuts, can't seem to do anything else but hope something new is posted before Nov. 3rd! You guys are marketing geniuses and know how to create a buzz that's for sure ;)

There is no way he works for RED. Jannard and Co are perfectly capable of managing our expectations. Paul is a story teller who has expanded his medium beyond moving pictures. He has zero inside info.

It might be a language barrier (english is not my native language), but I still think that the context of the whole sentence should indicate I was joking. Next time I'll be carefull not to leave out him -> :-)

I would love the choice between SSD or CF

I'd prefer CF if it's possible to record to generic highspeed CF-cards (might be some late development on that).

Otherwise, I'm sure RED will include the SSD, since RED's CF cards doesn't make sense anymore price/performance wise. RED is looking our for us here.

SSD module might also be one of the many small reasons the price has risen. But it's still a module for sure. That's the point of Scarlet/Epic.
