Can anyone do a good test of redvolt in the side handle run times during recording not just 36min standby. Or link me to where someone might have done it.
Thanks

Borrowed a side handle from a friend so i could do some test shooting on my scarlet this weekend. I would estimate that I was running slightly less than 30 minutes per redvolt with some casual shooting. It does feel great to shoot that light. I'll try a standby test so i can chime in.

I concur, it's about 30 minutes per a Redvolt. I believe there may be a firmware upgrade in the future that reduces power consumption.

Sounds like the processors are really sucking up some power. Do the fans kick on, like an R1? Just curious, for quiet intimate interview situations in documentary would it be audible? Thanks.

BTW, my name is James Sielaff, they haven't changed my name yet.

30 minutes of real shooting is great news. I was expecting 20 when tonaci said 34 minutes in *standby* but it's been clarified that standby isn't really standby yet, it's just the monitor turning off.

I guess that also means my V-Lock i bought will run about 2.5-3 hours... that should be plenty for studio work haha maybe I won't buy a second V-Lock and add to my RED Volt collection further.

if you're doing interviews why not just plug the thing into AC? The camera includes an AC adapter right?

I will be shooting on the fly, as I observe the subjects life. Camera absolutely has to be mobile. It's nice to know that at 30mins each set, I could throw a few revolts in my bag and shoot really light if necessary, and I could deal with the weight of a brick, for most situations.

Would fan noise be noticeable in a quiet situation? If it started up could it draw attention in a very quiet setting? The Red 1 was fine for a film set, but find it a bit distracting when the fan starts in-between REC/STBY, for my doc work. Thanks for any experience based input on this.

How long does it take to charge a redvolt?

Just did a test and got 36 minutes 43 seconds out of one redvolt. Strangely the battery fired up with 77% but it must have stayed at 5% for more than five minutes. I'd say it takes good two hours to get a full charge.

I left my SCARLET on for about 10 minutes and the fan kicked in. The fan is definitely way too loud for on set shooting, but the moment you hit the record button, it turns off. I'll have to play around with the setting more to really give you a full report.

Ah, I found the answer to my question here: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showth...t-Epic-M-users&p=771767&viewfull=1#post771767

Though, if a Scarlet is different, in fan noise, that would be god to know.

I don't have my batteries yet so I can only comment on my SCARLET using AC power, but the fan is definitely a concern. Search the forums and you'll find folks taking issue with it. It does NOT turn off when the camera is running, it ramps down to about 1/3 speed, but in a quiet room it's still plenty audible.

I'm not saying it's a PROBLEM -- but it is definitely something to be aware of!

So one needs at least 4 RedVolts, because charging time is 120 mins. By the time the last battery is consumed, the first should be recharged.

Thanks Ryan. I will try to get my hands on one as soon as possible. You anywhere near Charlotte, NC? Haha.

If anyone in NC area wants to test their DSMC on a steadicam rig, I'd offer my help.

James, I'm actually originally from Durham... but live in NYC now.

Interestingly enough, after I upgraded to 2.0.5 it seems to quiet down significantly more while recording. Using manual settings, I can say it's pretty darn quiet once you get down to the 30-40% range, and that should be adequate for most rolling.

Congrats on your Scarlet Ryan!

I didn't know you received it yet!
