  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet Outline

It seems obvious that Red can't put a final price on the camera until they have firm contracts with new suppliers for delivery of production quantities of the remaining parts that were rendered unavailable due to the Japan event. You can't set a firm sale price if you don't know what your true costs are.

You got to remember also economically it's a different world to when Scarlet for 3k was introduced, even changes in the last year make for changes in pricing. Some commodities have nearly doubled n the last year, oil is high, the dollar is weaker. None of these help a US based company buying parts from overseas.

the thing is. the fact they are waiting that long to release a product. it give the chance to other company to do the same camera or better. the best would be to release after summer to create a bang. if not and they wait another year. I don't think the camera will be as great cause i'm sure other company are doing the same thing now. building a great camera that does 2k-3k. It evolve way too fast. I don't think next year we will be at all in a WOW factor cause new camera will be out by than. I really hope RED get do it soon to really make a stand.

Your last comment seemed critical of Scarlet pricing. After glancing through your past posts you seem a firm Red supporter. Sorry if I misunderstood your post.

It's only negative if it's the camera I'm aiming for, which it isn't - so honestly *I don't really care* about the price.

I just hope once the "Fixed" version is available, RED will be able to handle all incoming orders.
I watched the short introduction posted here and I like that remote control and the look of the camera.

28mm-200mm as told in the clip seems to be fine.

But again: There is no release date. If I would know a date I suspended an order for a Sony FS100 (for example).

Every other camera company is having parts supply issues from Japan too. So everybody is slow on shipments. You can bet Scarlet will be released absolutely as soon as they have the remaining parts in hand to build them. The camera hardware has been finished and released for production since last December.
Four years after Red 1 was released no other company has released anything similar for less than 3 times the price. The Arri Alexa sports the same native raw resolution as Scarlet will, but it is around 10 times the price of Scarlet. The rest are just HD video cameras of one sort or another. The ones under $10k shoot inferior quality video codecs.

Oh well, guess they will have to release the cinema 2/3 scarlet first. Cant have lens issues there! ;)
Yeah, that would be great, but i think cinema and mini-primes are simply not ready yet, it was always planned to come after fixed.
In addition to that, the same lens production issues probably apply to the mini-primes too and releasing Scarlet Cinema without having a few lenses ready wouldn't be the best idea.
