On the eve of such an exciting announcement from Red on the Scarlet, I am a bit perplexed... Back from Reducation in September, I was all set to pull the trigger on an Epic M. Now w/the Scarlet coming out, not sure which way I should go; an Epic-M or TWO (if allowed to order 2) Scarlets! Without going into too much detail, what I'm aiming to do is this: Develop some original dramatic and non fictional content and hopefully brokering out the camera for rental to recoup some of the investment costs... So I guess the question I would have would be if Scarlet ends up delivering @ full S35 sensor and able to do 4k at at least something over 100 fps w/ interchangeable lenses, why Epic and not Scarlet? Thanks in advance to any input y'all might have!

On the fence.

Scarlet is going to be awesome, but Jim's post that "3 of a kind beats 2 pair" in the context of a discussion about Canon's new camera capturing 4K but recording 2K makes me suspect that Scarlet is still going to be 3K. Probably 2/3. So, I'm guessing it's still a situation of Scarlet being the 16 mm replacement and Epic the 35 mm replacement.

I see your point Jay. I don't think they would want to dilute the power of the Epic and it's owners by having Scarlet hit such a high spec... However, this company has done such amazing things in such a short amount of time, who knows what they'll do! Thank u for your input!

Sounds about right, but only makes me more confused about the different announcements. November 3rd is gonna' be a relief on some level.

Funny, many are interpreting Jim's statement about "3 is better than 2 " in terms of resolution.

Nov.3 Canon are releasing 2 cameras (rumoured) 1 for around 6 K & another more professional camera with PL mount . So with that in mind I took the statement to mean 3 Red camera's. So Epic is one of them what is the other 2? & from what was inferred in the same thread, Red One isn't going to be one of them either.

I may be the only one who sees it that way but hey just a different interpretation on a few words.

That's very possible, Mike. I immediately took it as a resolution comment because I didn't know Canon was rumored to be releasing two cameras. But had I known that, I might have thought along the same lines as you.

Hi Graeme

No, not Red One if you read the thread in Recon it's sounding like its product life is finite. Understandable when considering the streamlined manufacturing & module development implications with the Epic/ Scarlet body. One body different forms, different prices, different specs. But hey as I said that's my interpretation on the statements.
