So I was thinking today...

Back in small camera DV world I had ideas to get great shots (London, etc) sans permits and incorporate the footage into a larger project for added production value. Red comes along and there's no way in hell you can pass that off as anything but a commercial venture.

But Scarlet? Mmm yes. That can go in a jacket, shoot some excellent 3k footage on the go (so to speak) and when tapped on the shoulder, you show the tiny Scarlet and explain you're just on holiday filming for mum back home.

And 3k would cut nicely, even with Epic, for cityscapes and so forth.

Yup its portable, but you need to bring with you a hell of a lot CF cards for a daily run N gun and that=$, if you dont mind draging with you a laptop for dumping that is. Hope we can see some fast and affordable 128gig cards by the end of 2009. That would be sweet.

I assume you can put a harddrive mounted on the camera as well.
Even though CF is what most will use and the cameras primary recording media, an harddrive output for longer shots might be avalible...

Yes thats a good point. But a hardrive will make it less portable/more heavy and even shorten the battery life. In a not so distant future I'll bet we dont need to worry to much about CF cards storage space. At least I hope so.

I've done a lot of daydreaming about a run n' gun backpack that holds everything, a couple LED lightpanels, some bounce, wireless lavs, all the gak, a Scarlet and your stunglasses. Hop on the subway and make movies for no money, starring your friends.

Yes! Yes! Scarlet will be great for documentary filmmakers who want to get a camera where it wouldn't otherwise be welcome.

North Korea, Iran, Times Square at night.

For sure but we have to see overall stage for this sort of "guerilla potential" to show.

RED as mentioned before was or it is 96% to the "Poor" (FCP, Premiere, Avid, etc, ... with a maximum 4:2:2 workflow)

and it is about 4% for the "Rich(es)" to take advantage of the film print or 4K/2K 10 bit RGB Linear 4:4:4 digital projection.

And who are the "Riches" or th "Poor" you have to find out if this helps you anyway.

No any soclal revolution is on the away (all is just have got egsausted, communism, nationalism, ethnoelitism, religion., etc).

Vladimir Ilich Lenin was in Switzerland before the RED October Revolution and even though the Swiss remains the same till today.

Ask them (Swiss) directly from this forum.

No more illusions.

Money is in the hands of bankers anyway.

Swiss=Bank.

Again about REALITY CHECK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that Sanjin is a very intelligent person and I bet it comes across in his native language much more clearly...but boy, his posts here leave me with one big WTF 90% of the time.

I'm not sure what the heck Lenin or European banking or social stratification has to do with Scarlet.

It was in Zurich in the spring of 1916 that Lenin wrote the important theoretical work Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism. In this work Lenin argues that the merging of banks and industrial cartels give rise to finance capital. According to Lenin, in the last stage of capitalism, in pursuit of greater profits than the home market can offer, capital is exported. This leads to the division of the world between international monopolist firms and to European states colonizing large parts of the world in support of their businesses. Imperialism is thus an advanced stage of capitalism, one relying on the rise of monopolies and on the export of capital (rather than goods), and of which colonialism is one feature.
