Does the Mysterium-X image sensor use three separate sensors?? 3-CMOS??
Like in the Red One, is that a single 12 Megapixel Mysterium sensor?? Or does it use three separate CMOS sensors for identifying RGB?? Sorry is this is a dumb question, just trying to get my camera technology right.
I know the specifications on the Red One say just “12 Megapixel Mysterium” but that doesn’t really specify if it uses separate sensors in the Mysterium sensor..
And… if it does only use one big CMOS sensor, how would that compare to other cameras using 3-1/3 or even 3-1/2 CMOS images??
Thanks for any information –Paul Sutton

For all we know, nothing has changed and all RED cameras will use a single CMOS sensor.

Single sensor.

As to your other questions - a single sensor gives you a tiny bit less resolution in the red and blue colour channels (given the filter pattern needed to get colour out of a single sensor), but it means you can use normal cinema lenses, and you don't need special beam splitter assemblies and things that lose light and you don't get alignment problems and artifacting that results. Also, there's a lot less data to store than a three chip camera, and it will use less power, be cheaper, and not get as hot.
