  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet mysterium x question

I personally am keeping my Scarlet-X and then picking up a Scarlet-W.

To me getting the RED SCARLET was the upgrade :)

Agreed. What most people seem to miss in all this is the magic of RED is not the camera itself so much as it is the ability to record REDCODE...that's the magic...and the Scarlet-MX does that just fine. And like somebody said before, it is probably the most stable of all RED cameras in terms of the boards and firmware. Bomber. Mine is not going anywhere....

As someone brand new to the RED ecosystem, I'm blown away by the Scarlet X. It's a great camera, and my only experience thus far had been with an EPIC X along with regular Canon stills glass. Once I started shooting my own Scarlet with slightly better lenses and more time to test the camera in different situations I've been considering just sticking with this instead of upgrading to Dragon.

Yeah, but seems as though Red just abandoned it. No updates or upgrade options. That was the reason I picked Red. "Future Proof" Yeah right.

I know some of the options have been pointed out but, case in point, I upgraded my Scarlet-X to a Dragon sensor in 2015 and eventually also got rights to buy a discounted Scarlet-W package. Not sure when you bought your X - or if you bought it new or used - but, if used, you can't necessarily expect to pay used prices for something and then get all the same advantages of the guys who bought new and paid full price.

And let's not forget that there have been a good many firmware updates since you bought your camera. I always feel like I am getting a new camera when new firmware comes out!

I got it brand new from Red. Paid a grip for too. So that's why I'm kind of salty about the no upgrade policy.

Love my Scarlet. It still gets the job done and as someone said if you use it in 4k at speed it's awesome. I've shot many jobs with it as an A cam and several as a B cam with Dragons. If you have the money the trade in is nice but that's $$$ if you don't need to spend it. Use the camera it gives great images especially when lit correctly.

Not to belabor the issue but I am still not clear about the "no upgrade" claim. If you got it "years ago" then you did have the opportunity to upgrade, just like I did.

Gotta ask - what does "Paid a grip for too." mean? LOL

Ummm RED provided numerous opportunities to upgrade....to Epix Mx, to Dragon, to Scarlet-W, and now to Epic-W (till Dec 31, so act fast).

Not sure what you mean about no upgrade...

Clearly, there is an upgrade. Even at this late date but it's fast expiring. Why don't you upgrade and stop complaining

This. Is straight out complaining. Just saying. All good.
