  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hello all,

I bought a Scarlet mysterium x 3 package years ago for a project that fell through, only used it a few times. My question, is this still a good camera or should I cut my losses and sell this and move onto another camera?
 
For at speed shooting its still pretty good, just make sure to get a tiffen hot mirror as IR management is an issue on the MX chip

I shot this years back on a Scarlet-MX (augmented candle assignment), and I feel it holds up well:

Yup, Red MX still holds up great.

This big budget trailer was shot on 3 MX cams at 4K (Two Epics, and my Scarlet)



This was also shot mostly Scarlet MX, 4K and 3K:

 
Its only a little over 4 years old.

Its still a great camera :)

Nick!! I remember this first one.....I liked it a lot...(even though the prompter is in the shot haha!!!)

Abandoned....we have a slew of Sony/Canon high-end cameras as far back as 1993 here.

Trust me, that's abandoned :P

This has been said thousands of times on this forum. There are no upgrades or options from Canon, Sony, or anyone else for that matter. I have a Forged Dragon Weapon, and Epic-W and a little Scarlet-MX that could...and it still kicks. It has more function than Canon's new C-700 which costs $40K. I am keeping mine. It is in a funny place. If you went to sell it, you can't get much for it...but the quality of product it produces is worth far more than its current monetary value. That's future proof enough for me.

You don't see many other older cameras have upgrade options... some never even get upgrade options. Scarlet MX has been honed for years. It's as good as the hardware/computer boards will get.

But since RED offers such an amazing trade-in offer, I'd jump on that if you had the money AND your priority was not shooting a personal film. Otherwise use the money and shoot the film with the Scarlet.

But Canon, Sony, or anyone else didn't use that as a marketing ploy when they released their cameras. Red did. That's all I'm saying.

If I wanted to I can put my BT Scarlet up (cost me 7500) for trade towards an EPIC -W.

Its a 10K credit towards the EPIC.

With what I do and have come up with, I dont need to upgrade.

Maybe when I finish my first full feature :)
 
To me getting the RED SCARLET was the upgrade :)
