I've recently bought a Scarlet MX and I am still rigging it up for shooting.

In the Power Operations Guide says
"NOTE: Additionally, one (1) REDVOLT® battery may be used in conjunction with the DSMC Side Handle to provide short term power and support hot-swapping of other power sources."

That is not working at all. When I remove the V-mount battery from the DC Input the camera instantly shuts down. Even with the REDVOLT battery inserted on the handle and fully charged.

The power menu indicates both batteries are connected and if I turn on with only the redvolt, it works normally.

Any idea?

Hi there,

Sounds like you have an issue with the handle connection with the brain. Try and do a full system reset, update the firmware and try again. If the problem persists, if you can, if you know someone with another DSMC body and handle, test another handle on your brain and your handle on another to see if there is a link. If you handle does this on another camera then it is the handle. If another handle does this with your MX-brain, then there is probably a problem with the pin-contacts or even inside the brain. Hard to diagnose without testing different alternatives.

Keep us posted.

Thanks a lot Patrick,

I'll try that and update here.

I used to have a great experience using my REDVOLTS and BRICKS on set.
That lasted a good 6 to 7 years. Now I cant trust it.
I did the firmware and checked the SH (its been removed a lot for other setups) and still no go.
I've placed the REDVOLTS to rest since they only last 15 to 20m now.

It’s likely that the redvolts can’t hold/maintain the power draw when the battery comes off the back. They’re really poor batteries at the best of times (they lose 25~33% capacity seemingly within weeks of new). I think all of them are that way, except the OG bricks, which haven’t been on sale for years, so are probably gonna start falling off too.

I’ve been meaning to crack one of the redvolts open and see if it uses off the shelf cells. Björn did it with his Redvolt-Vs, and was able to get them back to as-new capacity (not sure how long they lasted with the new cells, but they weren’t too expensive).
