  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet Module Adapter

To attach any of the rear modules to the camera brain, you need an adaptor plate to be in place.

Ok, an adapter plate. What's the difference between the 'Scarlet Module Adapter' ($300) and the 'Scarlet Base Plate' ($500)?

But if you mean the SSD 1.8" side module, you do not need the adapter

Will there also be a SDD 1.8" Side Module for the Scarlet Fixed ? But a CF can be helpfull if you want to switch SDD's and keep on recording...

The Module Adapter goes on the back of the camera so you can attach modules to the Body, the Base Plate goes on the Base of the camera to hook onto the tripod, and a quick release plate.

The Scarlet body is smaller than the epic, so it would mean another round of design, but I think if the call is big enough, they will make one.

But since Scarlet is a <$10,000 camera, I think their reasoning would be "Would someone looking to spend as little as possible want to buy a $2500 side module"

That's why we need the 'Scarlet Module Adapter' and the 'RED SDD 1.8" Module'.

So we also need the 'Scarlet Base Pate' if we want to use a Tripod. There is no standard 'hole' so we can just use a standard Tripod video head ?

there is the standard I think its 3/4'' hole on the bottom, but if you want to be sturdy and concrete, you'll want the base plate

Thanks for the advice

The Scarlet brain is narrower than Epic, but I think height is the same. For the cinema brain I think the depth was the same too until they added a little extra length to Epic, the fixed brain is still deepest front to back. Scarlet should use the same side mount CF and SSD modules as the big boy. The whole point of this system is to make as many common modules as possible, with the brains being fully interchangeable.

The base plate adds attachment points for support rods and raises the body to industry standard spacing between the center of lens mount and the support rails. The brain has standard 1/4" and 3/8" tripod mount holes.

I hope once Scarlets and Epics get sold, RED posts a good and clear overview of their accessoires for 'dummies'.
All these motes, modules, sidehandles get confusing if you don't know where to start sometimes.

Also would be great, but I think this has been mentioned in the past, if RED would offer 'packages' in their store, shoot ready. They don't have to be cheaper then buying seperately, but as a way of knowing: okay, this package lets me shoot this way completely, and this package like this.
Like a total of 3 packages or 4.

Or if someone of the users could make a clear overview. And have it on the official RED Forum. Because I know for instance the difference between a Pro Redmote and a normal redmote is somewhere to be found on the forum here somewhere (I even remember reading about it in the past), but now it's difficult to find that information, burried here somewhere. I hope RED can, if they will suddenly have a bigger customer base with the release of Scarlets, also have more clear documentation on their site for certain things.

EDIT: I already seem threads like this:

Can of course be interesting to know more. Just would be nice to have a more official place to read it (or a clear overview as a sticky about what every accessoire does?)

This is great news, I didn't know the base plate also had raised bars for accessories to work with the lens. Do ou know is the raised bars are 19mm or 15mm?
