  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet Mass

I would guess just as a bare bones for steady cam REDmote, brain, lens, follow focus and rails, CF card, battery which can be the side handle and a LCD monitor. But you don't need to have the REDmote on the camera when shooting.

I remember someone who had held the Epic prototypes saying they were about the same weight as a HVX200.... not sure how accurate that will end up though, and how much difference between Epic and Scarlet

any idea on weight of that lot

Purely from memory, based on information gleaned while perusing this site, I believe the expected weight of the Epic brain is to be a bit over 6 pounds and the Scarlet a little less. I recall some very old information that suggested around 4 to 4 1/2 pounds but I think the Epic was also expected to weigh less at that point. As for me, I am assuming Scarlet brain will come in between 5 and 6 pounds.

I held the Scarlet fixed prototype at RED day but I honestly can't make a guess at the weight. It seemed lighter than 5 pounds + the lens weight but...? Anyone happen to weight it?

Terry

I think this is something we are going to have to wait until closer to the release date to find out. It would be nice to have it to plan ahead, but I'm sure red feels the same way too so they will tell us when they are ready.

I know the prototypes I held did not have boards inside --I think Terry's guess will be close -- probably can bare-bones an epic X at around 7, maybe a Scarlet 2/3" at 5.5-6.

One thing we can be certain, it will be some pounds lighter than Red 1.
