Hello all,
2 days ago we shoot a commecrial with a scarlet. While editing i found two malfunction frames in two different shots and cant understand what is that and why it happened. Didnt find any more yet but i'm so worried about my red as long as its not really safty to shoot with bugs like that. I uploaded the malfunction part to youtube so you can watch it.

Did anybody see something like this before?

Thanks,
Anton

Looks like corrupt data... Did you keep the original copy on the redmag? Or only one copy on the hard drive you copied to?

If you have the original I would try to play it back from the RedMag... if it exists there I would guess faulty RedMag.

Thanks and good luck

I agree, It looks like a bad data transfer. I had this same issue. The camera original SSDs where fine when played back in camera or on a laptop, but the files after being transferred had issues like yours seems to show.

Have a look at http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?78839-Corrupt-frames-please-help
My issue was a data transfer issue. I ended up replacing my laptop which has solved the issue.

If your camera original SSDs have the issue on them then I would log a support ticket with Red.

I hope this helps.

Many thanks for the fast answers. I have two coppies but the bad frame exist in both. Sadly i had to format the mag becouse i didnt have two many mags. Its easy to correct this thing in post just its first time i see thing like this and it wont be great if each shooting will end up with alot of corrupt data. I made 5-6 succesful takes each scene so i could easily replace it this time. My laptop is kinda buggy nowadays and maybe the there is the problem. Need to test everything now.

Happened to me many times and glad it would occur at start or end of shot.

Yes most of the time its data transfer.

On a bigger serious shoot, I spend the time to check each clip before copying.

Mr. McGuire: I just want to say one word to you. Just one word.
Benjamin: Yes, sir.
Mr. McGuire: Are you listening?
Benjamin: Yes, I am.
Mr. McGuire: Checksum.

:sifone:

My recommendation: No Finder level copy... two checksum copies at least from the mag. Second generation copies are a different matter, but have at least one checksum verified copy at hand and one checksum verified copy as backup. Minimum.

Visual inspection for copy verification purposes is shit, especially if done in a rush. Don't rely upon it.

my 2¢

I use Double Data.

Great software utility.

double data always crashes on me using MD5s, I use shot-put now and like it, plus does more formats...
