Folks,

I've started doing some low light tests with our new Scarlet. Overall, I'm quite pleased with what I'm getting. There is, however, some weirdness in this shot. Anyone know whats causing the 'concentric circles' artifact on the city lights bokeh? I'm shooting with the RED zoom 17-50mm - Available light - aperture wide open.

Thanks in advance

Adrian

Do you see that in the viewfinder or only on the recorded media? And do you see it with other lenses?

Definitely strange... Is there a window in between the camera and those city lights? I've had double pane glass do weird things like this before, but just a guess.

Some people say the Red 17-50mm is a rehoused Tamron 17-50mm and I saw many discussions regarding this kind of bokeh on this particular Tamron lens. It seems to be called onion bokeh.

Looks just like this in the RED touch screen.. Still waiting on our Canon mount, so the RED zoom is the only lens we have to test ATM.

Nope.. no window.. the Scarlet is about 18 inches away from the candles, and everything is on a balcony overlooking the city. Nothing but air out there... ;)
