Shot this little piece with 1 scarlet in 2 hours just to get an idea of what could be accomplished in a live event environment.

It all came out pretty good in terms of the footage. The ad wasn't really intended to be an ad but I thought some people out there may want to see the Scarlet in low light so here it is:

As for the noise reduction there is always NeatVideo available. So I guess some of the shots people are getting in low-light situations could be manipulated to look more pleasing with post tools.

These have already been run through Neat Video. There is absolutely zero noise in these images. If you see any it is vimeo's compression system.
The master file is clean.

Yep these shots are so good even after vimeo compression. I was just talking low-light (or very few lights) thing in general.

Yeah, I agree with what's been said. Futhermore, I think running it through noise reduction (and then maybe applying a little post sharpening to taste) creates an awesome film-like quality to the footage... Kind of like using vintage lenses, except the source still has all the resolution and it ends up being the cleanest image possible...

Also, hate to do this again in this thread but I feel obligated: any chance for a .r3d?

Hi, I think those shot are fabulous and I love the color and the skin tone. I have been experimenting with low light. Can you please instruct me as to what your camera settings are? Thanks.

We were shooting 4k 2:1 at 30 FPS RC7:1 180 shutter. The secret sauce though is in dealing with the sensor info after you've got the footage. A combination of NEat Video/DaVinci/After Effects. The fast lens helps as well.

Neat Video plus a tiny bit of sharpening does have a special look that is for sure.

I'd love to throw up some R3Ds but once the edit and color is finished we store everything offsite. Next time I put in an order for some footage I will ask for a few shots from the shoot though. Or the next low light series we have coming up I will throw up a few.
