  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet in space - Shoot for MUSE

BTS from a Canon 60D which can't handle the dynamic range or amount of detail (not to mention the chroma/moire) in the scene to show what the lighting was like for the shoot. No issues though with the Scarlet.

password: muse

Matt great use of Scarlet....this is what this camera is designed for TV/ Web IMO. Great clips, congrats. 60D a bit of a mystery why its there but hey I'm sure there's a valid reason.

So what you got with R3D's. I'm thinking all of all those "lucky b......." New Scarlet "Deal of lifetime' owners my want to start with RCX .

So I'll play..... ; )

but i have the colourist skills of a brick!

hahaha here they are, 7 R3D grabs in total. Post your stills here once you play with them. It would be fun to see how other people would color the footage and the direction they take it. It's RAW after all...

*Just as a general note to anyone downloading these R3D's, these are my property so please don't pass them off as your own or use them to promote yourself in any way. These are for play and evaluation only. Thanks.

R3D download moved below...

The 60D is definitely a weird camera. Stills it does pretty well, but the video is garbage. It is soft and uber horrible.

Hey Matt maybe "watermark' copyright blah blah the files to be safe......we won't mind.

Well, I updated the Owner and copyright info in the meta tab as well as linked the camera pin and serial number. So theres no way anyone can pull off a heist without being caught.

Ok here's my 1st couple contrast to what Matt has posted.

I went with decaying technology hence the bike "yellowed look". However now viewing the still I would crush the blacks more...its looking little to clean & golden

The 2nd one is darker...more "Alien" deeper blacks more contrast, less chroma.

& Heres another trying to accent the dress without destroying skin tones with a 1 light grade & no power windows...... interesting exercise......

Downloading them now. Man... Muse. Respect. One of my favourite live acts of all time. Knights of Cydonia D: <3

Edit: Also I wouldn't take it personally about the lack of comments! I started a thread where I displayed one of my panorama shots of two TV Hosts dressed up as different DC Super Heroes blended together, for Warner. Bros. It was legit. Didn't get one comment >.<

Ok I was laying low because I didn't want to be a thread hog....

Anyway heres another on accenting wardrobe. Actually really like this shot straight out of the box, reminds me that Red Gamma 3 has a lot to offer as well as the great standby Red Log film.

Matt noticed your ISO is set to 500 is this your preferred setting?

Thanks. Make sure to post your cc images once you play with them.

I'm not taking it personally, I just feel like I'm wasting a thread and my time lol. I really don't mind, but I feel like I'm having a conversation with myself haha.

That's too bad about your thread, link it here and I'll check it out. It's funny that certain threads get no comments but some ridiculous thread gets a thousand! End rant :)

Anyways, for 3K images I think they look pretty good. I would have loved to shoot it in 5k 48fps ;)

I tend to shoot between 400 and 500 when shooting tungsten in low light or green screen. I try to keep noise to a minimum. Plus in studio situations I can control my contrast ratios and dynamic range so I don't have to worry about blown highlights or crushed shadows. So in this specific instance that's why I chose 500. On this shoot had I rated at 800, the low end would have been too noisy for my taste had I exposed for the highlights (given the wide dynamic range of the scene). 500 gave me a good balance. Plus I was shooting in 3k so I had to make sure I kept noise minimal. I pretty much used up all the dynamic range the camera has which proves how incredible the MX sensor is (which as you saw in the bts the 60d couldn't begin to handle it and the settings were identical to the Scarlet's). I'm excited for Dragon!

Your not a thread hog! Please keep posting so I'm not insane talking to myself here haha.

I'm not commenting because I'm still trying to think of an excuse to VFX supervise a muse music video to meet Matthew Bellamy. ;) I assume everyone is silent for the same reason haha.

In all seriousness, that looks really cool. I'm disappointed we don't get the full tour and stage fx that the european tours get. I remember going to a pre-twilight muse concert and the venue was mostly empty. Post-twilight it was packed but we still get the stripped down stage here in the Northwest. I would love to see in person how all the video elements fit together but we probably won't get the Pyramid etc when they perform here.

As to the grades, I like your rmd grades more than the wip grade. Feels really desaturated and lifeless but maybe that's the tone they're going for.

Matt I'm astonished this was shot @ 3k.

I thought on playing with RMD's Scarlet 4K. What was the rational for 3k? Either way I'm impressed.
