  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet in space - Shoot for MUSE

Excellent!

Being a fan of both Muse and RED, this is a nice thread to see popping up.
BTW, I also have tickets for Muse's (to my knowledge) last concert of the tour in Brussels Belgium. It will be the first time that I'll see them live, so I'll probably see this imagery on the big screen :-)
Very curious to their new album. I already loved their song for the Olympic Games, Survival.

Nice atmosphere and nice lighting.. Reminds me a lot of the original Alien in production design.
The shot of the guy with the joystick is very cinematic.

Please keep us updated, would be interested in seeing more!

That is the last stop of the tour in Europe, but then it's onto the US in January and then the rest of the world after that. Just hasn't been announced yet.

Nice job Matt. Looking forward to the video.

The spaceship, cool set. Custom job or a place you can rent out in LA?

Looks great. Did you use filters on this job? I have a ton of filters, but rarely use anything other than ND or polarizing filters as I tend to prefer a non filtered look. When I use filters it is rarely over 1/4. However I have an open mind, so if you have some stand by filters you find you go to I would love to hear what they are.

Thanks Will,

It's a really crappy standing set in Los Angeles. It looks good on camera though. That is if it's lit properly. It was built 20 years ago so lots of productions have used it including the show Firefly.

Thanks Brian,
Didn't use any on this as I was already shooting mostly 3K and with MKII Super Speeds which are known for being a bit soft. I typically just have ND's, pola, and every once in a while a low con filter or digicon with the occasional black pro mist. But that's only if I'm using sharp lenses to begin with and want to augment the look on set. Otherwise I shoot clean as often as possible.

Just to update the thread. Muse is now officially on tour so if you make it to a show you will see these visuals on the big pyramid and screens. Here's a couple of low res, pre color, h264 grabs from the prelim vfx pass:

Matt, these look fantastic. Really show that even as Epic's little sister the Scarlet in the right hands really churns out some AMAZING images.

Thank you so much for sharing.

Thanks Isaac.

I'll post some stills from the raw footage and a couple R3D's for people to play with if they want.
