The next time we announce anything about Scarlet... it will be ready to ship. We will not post anything about "what we think might happen".

Jim

F&$% my life..... :mad2:

I think at this point we should go out and shoot movies and let RED do what RED does best

Yeah that would be good and all except the camera I'm going to use to shoot those movies, doesn't exist...And apparently won't exist for the foreseeable future.... Makes it a little difficult doesn't it... :D

If the Scarlet was RED's flagship camera (RED ONE, MX, and now Epic), I'm sure this situation which includes at every NAB, Red stating, "you should see Scarlet released in the next few months," would be considered unacceptable by the masses. I think RED at this point should just buy Ikonoskop, re-house that camera, and call it a day. We have been waiting since 2008 for the release and now RED is changing its policy of giving us a heads up, specifically since the Scarlet Fever is getting annoying in one way or another. However, Red's flagship operators are happy go lucky since they are getting an end product. Remember, after Red One we were supposed to get Scarlet. Instead we got Red One M-X (a refresh to the flagship), and now Epic. And now, we are being told, you'll get it when you get it since we don't deserve an explanation, although if one has really payed attention, the Scarlet peeps are the ones that have been waiting and holding out the longest. And now it seems, we are Red's weakest link. Don't even deserve any respect or loyalty.

Gabriel. I hear you. As do many here. There obviously is a HUGE market they can grab with the Scarlet which is why after having Epic-M's out in the wild they jumped straight to Epic X customers especially with the MX upgrade, I was surprised when we were looking at 4 stages of Epic X before we know our future.

This silence until release is mixed for me. I agree with the principal, but do it after you release the Scarlet. If you go over to the main Recon board you can see all of the support for the most part, besides Toia and a few others is positive. Reason being...They have cameras, RED Ones, Epic M's, Epic X's close to being shipped, and or get to work with them regularly. They support it because they're not on the outside looking in with little to know info. I feel like I always have to state this because it really isn't a slight, or knock at RED but this could really alienate those from the outside of REDUSER and Scarletuser to not even considering it. Maybe they want it that way? Toia had a great post and I feel like this could happen alot to potential Scarlet buyers who may be semi interested but it's not there focus like alot of us. It's hard for us because alot of us have been patient and planned budget for the release. Once I use that budget its spent, I can't afford a RED after I use what I'm allotting for a camera. And those on the outside will really know nothing until it's in the hands of people out there, and they could've already moved on, or spent the money they have to spend, or are to deep into production.

I'll support RED forever but it is slightly off putting. But it's Jim's company, and he knows more than us. We're only on the outside looking in. I guess more of my frustration is seeing those waiting for Scarlets sticking by, being loyal and having paitence, and Epic owners seemingly not seeing what it's like, and constantly getting work and cameras in there field. They never really had a gap. They've had the RED one to work with, still outside what alot waiting for the Scarlet can spend. I know they want to focus on Pro level cameras, but I think there are alot of talented individuals that with a camera like the Scarlet Fixed or Interchangeable would make some amazing work. I think Canon capitalized on this in a way. They or someone else very well could again if it takes much longer. Just my two cents, not negative. Just a thought. I'm standing pat for the time being.

Hopefully we just have just a tad bit more patience. We've all been waiting along time. :) I'm sure that once it gets here we'll all forget the wait.

Funny...I made this some time ago...almost a year, I think. It's still true. Don't really know what that says...people are still people? RED is still RED?

Come on guys. What's the big deal? If they don't want to release information, who cares! It's a big world out there. Explore it. Get a life.

It always amazes me how much anguish goes into these forums on reduser.net. Count yourself very lucky that your spending your nights ticked off about when the Scarlet is going to be released. Now blow off some of that steam playing with your Xbox or PS3. You have a good life.

I guess that Scarlet Interchangeable will take the name and replace Epic-S.

Epic-S could be totally cancelled in that case.

That means S35mm sized sensor (upgradeable to RED Dragon), 120fps @ 2K and 60p @ 5K, 4.5K, 4K, 3K, 2K, 1080p, 720p.

Price: between min $8.000 to max $14.000 for body only without mount (PL titanium or Canon EOS electronic).

Available to order just before Christmas.

Time to close this thread. The speculation is retarded.

That would be a game changer for many people. However I don't believe the $14.000 top price, since the S35 was estimated at $12-13.000, and that was a camera with a 5K resolution.

I just edited:

That means also RED could stop production of RED MX.

From what has been said by Jim and Jarred I think we can expect Scarlet and Epic-S before the end of the year. What more is there for Red to say about either of these cameras than here are the final specs, prices, and it is being released now? The road map hasn't changed, just what they tell us and when.

I don't get all the negative posts.

First of all Red has no previous experience with mass production, they are starting to get some with the new Epic X line. So, that one is sorted for the Scarlet when the time comes.
Second they had some issues with the lens, I have a feeling once they put their mind to it, they can fix that quite fast. I think they made their move to not giving that much detailed future information because they are nearly there for the Scarlet and did just deliver the Epic X. So, what is the point in saying it will be 4 weeks, when all people do is complaining about delays.

I still think it will be here sooner than most of you expect.

Clearly you haven't been hanging out at the forum since 2008. If you did, and had been waiting for a camera 'just about to be released' for the following 3 years, I think you would feel differently.

I simply mean that it's a good thing to know that you don't have to ask, or wait for an announcement. It's not going to happen, so you can forget about it.

That's better, IMO, than, are you gonna tell us something this week? No, maybe next week.
How about now? No, not now, but maybe later.
Is it later yet? No, not yet, but it might be soon.
What about now? Not quite...

You get the idea. That cycle is ended. That's positive, IMO.

We now know the definitive answer to the question, when is Red going to announce that Scarlet is ready to ship? when you see it in the Red store.

The end.

Cameras are disposable tools, and you should view them that way. Scarlet will be just another camera you use, in a long line of cameras, if you shoot for any serious amount of time.

It's simply not true that once you use that budget, it's spent and you can then never get a Scarlet.

No camera you buy now, if it's relatively new, will suddenly be worth nothing once Scarlet releases.

You can sell that camera, and buy a Scarlet. If you can save up a budget for a Scarlet, then you can save up the difference between selling the camera you have now, and a Scarlet.

Later you might want to sell your Scarlet and get an Epic-S or who knows what camera.

You shouldn't be afraid to lose a few dollars buying a camera, shooting with it, selling it, and upgrading. Those few dollars you lose, are not worth not shooting something now. If you don't have anything to shoot now, then who cares when Scarlet releases?

fortune_teller1.jpg

I went today at La Casita Verde in Ibiza to ask a fortune teller about RED future

and she told me the following:

Epic line:

1. EPIC-M Titanium body only for exclusive order

2. EPIC-M (you can order today)

3.EPIC-X just started to ship

SCARLET line:

1. Scarlet S35mm redesigned small body than Epic, 120fps @ 2K and 60p @ (5K, 4.5K, 4K)*, 3K, 2K, 1080p, 720p.

* She wasn't 100% sure about those particular spec.

2. Scarlet 8x Fixed, 120fps @ 2K and 60p @ 3K, 2K, 1080p, 720p.

All will start ordering and shipping before and after Christmas.

She wasn't sure to tell me any of exact prices but only that Scarlet cameras will be really affordable.

Also she said that she couldn't tell me anything about Epic-S and that right now it probably doesn't exist any more.

All other new products are in pipeline as Jim said before...

But hey it sounds absolutely fantastic!!!

![/QUOTE]

I haven't seen anything that indicates Epic S is no longer in the pipeline.

In fact, I think I saw that Epic S is probably going to be ready before Scarlet interchangeable.
