A while back RED released a list of items to be included in EPIC and I presume Scarlet. It's surely outdated and probably inaccurate, but one of the items listed was integrated GPS. Is this still part of the new cameras, and will there be any tracking for stolen cameras (Find My iPhone style)? I fear not hearing about recent EPIC-M thefts...

EDIT: sidenote... did we ever find out what the mysterious #21 was?

Just to note: GPS alone will not accommodate tracking of a camera's location. For that, the camera would need some sort of transmitter option and access to a territorial network.

If I remember correctly the brains also have Wifi built-in. Both a transmitter and access to a network.

But to be effective as a theft recovery tool, it would have to be surreptitiously transmitting constantly (using up battery) and have access to an open wi-fi. The whole "find my camera" is a great idea, just not sure how easy it will be to implement. BTW - there has been a whole lot of discussion around this issue here on REDuser if you care to research it.

And, if memory serves me, I think Jarred once admitted that #21 was never really anything - just a mistake when they made the list. Of course, I am sure there are those who will argue conspiracy theory. :scared:

And believe me, I have! Just wondering about what hardware actually made it into the production Scarlet. Whether its for theft tracking, metadata, or nothing I'd like to know!
