For two years I have been waiting for the Scarlet Fixed, and now that it is finally near I need to ask one question - can I use it? As the result of a rock climbing accident I am slightly handicapped; my right arm and shoulder are weak and subject to pain if over exerted. Fine motor coordination is also weak, but nonetheless I make documentary films using a dSLR and shoulder rig. The only problem is that I HATE the color gradients, or lack thereof, that make DSLR films less than enjoyable cinema. Fine for short form but the false color-moire-aliasing all combine to make DSLR footage tiring over longer periods. Also not as emotionally engaging.
So I really want to move to the lightest RED set up, IF it is light enough and can be configured so I can use it. I might travel to NAB and hope that I can handle a Scarlet Fixed.
But is my dream unrealistic? I heard Ted say that a Scarlet Fixed will weigh about 4.5 pounds, but there seems to be some confusion if that is the head plus lens weight, or the weight of a shooting rig.
Then there is the weight of the SSD module, even a few pounds can make a difference. Or will lighter weight CF modules even be available over the long run? Can the SSD module work while on a belt rig?
Unfortunately, frequently I have to shoot hand held. Is the image stabilization good enough, at least as good as standard ENG/EFP rigs? Obviously I am not rock steady.
As a documentary film maker I realize I am taking a narrative cinema tool and repositioning it, but HDR and RAW might rescue me when I cannot properly light, 2/3" DOF is suited for docs, and the images are so so good that I cannot imagine settling for less.
Can someone please help me with information, suggestions or miracle piece of rig?
