OK, here is a silly question. How wide is the lens on a fixed model supposed to be? (in 35mm terms- I am old school) and how fast is it going to be?
Battery question- how long battery is supposed to last? Is it going to accept AB?
Codec- how many GB/min is this codec?
Thanks

The original spec was 28-244mm ff35 equivalent.
Single small battery approx. 40 minutes to an hour from reported Epic run times.
Scarlet's file size will depend on what compression level/ data rate you choose. Figure 1 to 2 GB per minute.

But Scarlet consumes much less power than the Epic. I asked this question in the recent Q&A. While Jim wouldn't give any hard numbers, this is what he said:

"Low power draw so a long battery life."

Obviously open to interpretation but 40 minutes is by no means "long battery life". Assuming we have the same battery as used in the Epic side handle, I would expect Scarlet Fixed to go much longer. My personal interpretation of the minimum for "long battery life" is about 2 hours. Who knows what the actual battery life is? Certainly, it will last much longer than the Epic and 40 minutes, I am pretty certain.

Wish someone from the RED team would clarify this. I have already seen plenty of misinformation regarding this, with people assuming the $1200 battery module is a necessary expense.

I believe the lens is T/2.8, f/2.4

That covers quite a wide range, would prefer 24-200mm personally. With Red's high standards it'll probably be very nice. I think for the price point, it will definitely be worth investing in a Scarlet Fixed rather than a 2/3 Scarlet Interchangeable. Then perhaps down the line picking up a Scarlet S35.

To slow mo of the 2/3 Scarlet's is going to be useful too.

Ok, so a silly question...since it's a fixed lens...are we still going to get some nice DOF out of it? Or will it look more that of a typical "video" camera with really high resolution?

It opens to an aperture of f/2.4. The camera has a 2/3" chip as an imaging area. It will behave exactly according to those characteristics. Not sure what the question is related to the lens being "fixed."

Jarek, it all depends on how you use it. F-stop, distance from the subject and lens focal length all influence, right?

I came across this chart http://www.dofmaster.com/doftable.html Make sure to put in 16mm in the drop box, choose a focal length and then "calculate."

I've worked zooms off of prime lens DOF charts and while not 100% exactly the same, they worked reliably.
