It should be technically possible to down-sample the raw file and output an image that has 16bit latitude but at 2k, gaining contrast resolution at the expense of spatial resolution, with hot pixels mapped out at the factory.
I think Graham has posted elsewhere on the difficulties in pulling a solid image out of that kind of setup. It would be a nice idea in theory..... but maybe involves more work than us "non-compression genius" types appreciate..... Let's see :biggrin:
