Scarlet Files Corrupt?

Hey everyone, I unloaded some clips from a Scarlet and four of them show up as "OFFLINE" in RCX.

Each potentially corrupt clip takes up one 4GB file + another 2-3GB file in the RDC folder. If I delete the first R3D part (4.3GB), the second part suddenly works (for all four files - so I assume any corruption is in the first part of each clip).

Clips play back fine in camera.

Anyone seen this before? I'm holding out on formatting the Redmag just to be safe. The issue occurs on the mounted Redmag and any hard drive I dump to.

In a worst case scenario, can I playback the footage in camera while outputting to an Atomos Ninja or Samurai and record a ProRes backup? The project is being cut in 1080p ProRes anyway.

Thanks!

If the clips playback in camera, then yes, a ProRes recording should be fine.

As you can't access the first parts from Redcine-X Pro ( are you on the latest v17? ) to trim around corrupt frames, talk directly to Red Support about recovering as much as possible of the first parts.

It's strange they playback fine in camera though - you could try a different SSD card reader, a different cable to connect to the computer, or a different interface (eSATA, FW800, USB2, USB3)

Have you tried re-copy across. I had a similar issue with files when they were transferred from a backup. Came up offline on main and back up drive. I then deleted and re copied and they worked fine

Thanks for the tips guys.

Looks like I'll have to go through Red Support or rent a Ninja or Samurai and record playback. I've tried 3 diff. Macs with each cable, but it's definitely the 4 files on the Mag which are corrupt...hopefully the Mag is still good!

EDIT: also, if I'm going to record to Ninja/Samurai and I have the force preset for menus with SDI/HDMI, do I have to disable that first?

So only corrupt files are breaking the 4GB-barrier? Sounds like a issue with the filesystem or maybe the files are a few bytes oversized? Whats the exact filesize on the REDMAG and on your harddisk after you've copied them? Are you using external harddrives which are formatted with FAT(32)?

You say you've tried multiple macs, have you access to a Windows-Machine with NTFS-formatted drives?

What was the copy method used?

David

Not sure what the loader did, but I was just dragging/dropping the folders in OSX.

It's not a copying thing though, they're corrupted on the Mag. Here's how they show up in RCX:

Have you tried redundead?

You have to get into the terminal window, but it will get them off of there.

How does the folder look on the mag?

Ive seen this happen when mags were not ejected properly.

Red undead is the way to go.

They're copying off the drive fine...does RedUndead repair files, or just find/copy them from a drive?

"Media Offline" shows up for all four clips on & off the Mag. If I delete the first 4GB R3D of a clip from the RDC folders, the second R3D segments play fine.

The fourth clip's larger R3D file won't copy back to an alternate, formatted Mag...file size is 4,027,645,952 bytes. Is that too big for Fat32?

EDIT: When renaming the first R3D of a clip (to separate it from the working, second R3D), then copying that into RCX, I see a red "X" for a thumbnail. The metadata shows: Frames: 1885, Dropped frames: 851 - still plays back whole clips in camera though

What is the footage supposed to be of?

Was the camera in a high vibration enviranment, like a helicopter or a rock concert?

that seems like an awful lot of dropped frames for a clip.

what sized redmag?

david

PS you should also file a support ticket with RED.
