Can you set up the camera to capture single stills?
Or do have to pull the stills from a motion file?

At this point you have to take the still from the motion file.

YES. There is a button on the side-handle and the REDMOTE that switches between motion and still modes. It is not currently activated...

I thought that was supposed to change the way the focus algorithm works?

You could always set your DSMC to 1 fps and then probably start and stop the recording fast enough to get a one frame .R3D file.

or go for the 12fsp 5K burst and pick the Best Of....?

Well, yeah, that's a much better idea because unless you're starting recording remotely, there's bound to be some camera movement from the press of the record button. If you choose a frame other than the first or the last you'll probably find that it's sharper in most cases.

Is it possible now to sync Broncolor power packs with the scarlet, I remember reading some where in this forum regarding that capability when using the side handle.
My side handle is arriving on Monday. I am very excited on trying that option.

why would you want to take just one frame at a time with the scarlet? any dslr on the market will probably do a better job.
to me the whole idea of the dsmc concept is to pull stills you recorded in motion-something you can't do with any dslr on the market.

I'd like it to operate like a dslr, so I'm sure I have the shot I want.
not juggling cameras and so on, simple addition to the camera. It
would add value in my eyes, if people don't like it don't have to use it.
