  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Will Red release this H.264 Module? Or did this get scrapped? I was browsing the net and came across this.

I have serious doubts that this is still in the works. WIth the atoms and pix products that have come to market along with teradek since this announcement, i'm not sure RED would find it worth pursuing. Just a hunch.
 
Would be a bummer if so. I always thought that this was one of the sharpest module ideas yet. Not only the h.264 recording capability but rather the transmitting video feeds to iPads and so on. Would surely be a market for this even though atomos and sound devices offer proxy recording.
 
There definitely would be a market. I'm just guessing that RED is putting their focus and resources into more important modules like Pro I/O and endeavors like Red Ray since they are really pushing 4K delivery/display. These along with pushing sensor technology seem to be more important, especially if you consider the camera in terms of market competition. Just total speculation, for what it's worth.
 
And very likely to be accurate, sad to say. Add the projector into the mix and a h.264 module seems like a small pawn in the end game. Doesn't mean I like it though :P Then again who knows what happens once Red catches up to speed with all that is going on atm. Here´s for hoping on a late Friday night :)
 
II think Red will not develop this wonderful idea since there are other solutions on the market at an affordable price (AJA Ki´s)
 
your right eric there are definitely cheaper solutions and i'm sure red is tied up in other developments, but that module would look so awesome hanging off the back of my scarlet lol.. lets hope there are still plans on making this module "fingers crossed"
 
Of course there is always the fact of them "shooting themselves in the leg" regarding Red Rocket cards (on a proxy workflow at least). However real time password protected wifi streaming to iPad´s for instance would be awesome on shoots with clients and why not fiction as well. And yeah... would be more handy as a module than most 3rd party alternatives.
