I know this has been discussed a lot before but I was hoping to get updated info based on real experience. Do Dragon owners, especially those with Scarlet Dragons (upgraded from Scarlet-X), think ARED Armor is an important addition to your order or not so much?

Thanks.

I didnt buy it... Comes with a year warranty regardless, and i figure I will probably sell it soon after 1 year for the weapon. So no, I dont think it's worth it for me personally

I didn't get it either. I have a habit of buying a new camera every year, even though I keep telling myself not to.

I bought it for my Epic Dragon, but I'm a bit concerned about it with the Weapon upgrade. It was an additional 2k for it. We still don't know if our armour transfers to weapon or not. Based on previous experience, where my previous armour didn't transfer to the new sensor, I would say, if one is to upgrade to Weapon, to not get the armour, and only get it on the Weapon body. Maybe Red can clarify this before the reveal, since this goes into the "give existing costumers a heads up" info then " revealing the tech cards to the competition before time" !

You might want to check w/ an entertainment insurance broker. You may find it better(and cheaper) to buy liability insurance that covers damage/theft from use ie "i dropped it", "it just stopped working" or "some punk stole it" on all your owned gear(itemized) AND rented gear.

I have such policy, managed by "Hammond Martin Walsh & Smith".

Their website is http://www.entertainmentinsurance.com/

If you call, ask for Larry, and be patient (he's a busy guy).
I don't get any kickbacks or anything, but feel free to drop my name, or not =)

If you buy a new Dragon, you'll get a year warranty... but, if you have an MX Scarlet that's being upgraded I don't know if you can get Armor without already having Armor (if that makes sense?).

I had ongoing Armor for my Epic MX - now Dragon, and I have Armor for that. I'd rather just have it covered by RED and send it back if there are any issues... but that's just my thoughts. Obviously, Epic and Scarlet are different prices, so you need to look at overall cost effectiveness.

Again, thanks for the input, everyone.

Andy - just for the record, I am upgrading my Scarlet-X and I am being offered Armor at the checkout even though I hadn't purchased it previously.

Hi Terry - interesting, I'd have thought (maybe my bad!) that you would already need Armor to get Armour... thinking about it, there's probably so much gutting of parts that RED offers full Armor on a non Armored upgrade.

I guess it comes down to use and also how long the upgrade to Weapon is... and if Dragon Armor is transferable.

Let us know what you decide!

Just for the record, I decided to forego Armor for my Scarlet Dragon upgrade. I figure that my camera has to be checked out thoroughly anyway, and Dragons have been in the wild for awhile, so the risk of a $1500+ repair is somewhat minimal. And, I do have other insurance and I am buying on Amex with extra protection there.

... covers damage/theft from use ie "it just stopped working"...

I have Athos Insurance and it seems like the "It just stopped working" claim is actually a warranty claim, which isn't covered by insurance. I made a few phone calls to Athos customer service before I made my RED Armor decision, and this was the biggest reason why I decided to get the RED Armor.

Considering the rest of my warranty on my Scarlet-X transferred to the Dragon sensor, I would definitely assume that current warranty would transfer in the case of a trade-in upgrade because your warrantied Dragon sensor is just moving bodies.
