Why are these projected ship-dates able to be shared up to 3 1/2 months in advance but nothing on Scarlet? Why so silent on Scarlet all of a sudden? Red preaches about a deep level of appreciation for it's customer base.. does this mean you have to have spent money with Red to be part of this valued crowd? How about the tentative customers that have been patiently hanging around for years? Does Red love us as much?

Sorry but I doubt I'm the only one perturbed by recent Scarlet non-events..

Still, I love what this company has built thusfar so I guess I'll just turn the volume down and take a shower...

Dude, this is just thread crapping. The new RED policy was clearly announced and this thread is about items SHIPPING.
Scarlet is not shipping, hence no announcement. And when Jim says "Trust me" I would trust him.

back to thread, THANKS JARRED! This helps a ton for planning and managing expectations.

With all due respect Tim.. I believe with 100's if not 1000's of humans would share my same sentiment regarding said "crapping"... I guess what I'm asking is, will Scarlet be ready when it's ready?, or ready when it's 3-4months from being ready? This may or may not matter to someone that owns and operates a Red One, Epic M, or Epic X but I assure you it's relevant to many humans that aren't voicing what I know they'd like to be voicing.... A lot of potential Scarlet owners aren't really feeling like valued "customers" right about NOW.

It's been said many times that it isn't going to be a surprise. They will likely release Scarlet just like they released Epic M, X, and all of it's accessories. They will take orders for Scarlet when it is ready and they will ship Scarlet as fast as they can.

Thank you David :)

Same advise to everyone... It's wicked hard to be patient. But... Be patient. Red is awesome and will take care of everyone... At least everyone with a good attitude.

Haha. All mention of Scarlet should be exiled to Scarletuser.

OK.

I do not do this often but I have a strong opinion on this.

Just about every thread I read is full of "future scarlett users" who want "news", they want a "date", they are planing 20 big shoots that only the scarlett is good for. Blah. Blah. Blah.

Just about every thread I read is full of "future scarlett users" who want "news", they want a "date", they are planing 20 big shoots that only the scarlett is good for. Blah. Blah. Blah. There is a constant state of threadjacking with "what the scarlett news" and it is a big bunch of noise.

FACTS:

1. You can buy REDONE now.
2. You can buy EPIC NOW
3. EPIC X is shipping NOW
4. MODULES are SHIPPING later.

This is all very relevant information for CUSTOMERS who actually have MONEY invested and are ahead of you in line.

FACTS:

STAGE 3 is AFTER stage 2
STAGE 4 is AFTER stage 3
MODULES CONTINUE TO SHIP.

They even created a whole website called SCARLETTUSER for all of these questions and comments.

I do not know why people believe they deserve to know what RED is planning. There could be MANY reasons that RED does not reveal it's business intentions.

My advice.

You have to have faith and trust. You have to have patience and be supportive of the process (and it is a process). Relax.

Right now on many threads it feels like Jim is the DAD driving the car and a few people are in the VERY BACK seat yelling "are we there yet???". I don't know if it's annoying for Jim and team but it'e pretty annoying for the people in the seats in the middle of the bus, enjoying the ride.

We are talking months and years, not minutes or days. People who put actual cash down on EPIC X did it as early as APRIL 2010 and they are just starting to receive those cameras now.

So forgive me, but I do not have a lot of sympathy for your big guestimate of 100-1000 people who are maybe customers that RED might loose.

end of rant.

Whew. I've been holding that back for a long time.

David

I don't do this often but I have a strong response on this.

Scarlet hasn't mysteriously appeared from the ethos as a random occurrence. Scarlet has been marketed to what could now be called; "the Scarlet crowd" for lack of a better term.. There's no intentional "thread jacking" for the PURPOSE of "jacking" said thread. This is what happens as a result of exciting the synapses of a given market with a projected product.. This projected product has been "right around the corner"... for a while now.. Look at it objectively and you'll see the same.

Factier FACTS:
1. "I" can't buy a Red One now.
2. "I" can't buy an Epic NOW.
3. True
4. True

By capitalizing "customers", is it safe for me to assume that "customers" that really want to "invest" and have the "money", AREN'T in fact "customer" until they spend said money?? (please forgive me, public school system)

Scarlet User is all here say at this current point in time.. Why not save a click or two and come here where the party is at?

If you "don't know why people believe they deserve to know what RED is planning" I don't know what to say. Hasn't Red been ALL ABOUT transparency from the start? Wasn't that one of the main reasons for creating this FORUM?.. I understand the latest and newest policy about going dark due to the competition keeping close tabs on THIS DIALOGUE but with regards to Scarlet, isn't it already all publicly spec'd out??

When did I ever insinuate 100-1000 people were going to be lost as customers? By stating that someone isn't feeling valued isn't exactly saying they are considering leaving.. I guess this is the beauty of interpretation as you can CHOOSE to define information as it works best for you..

You shouldn't hold back David.. You should always speak your mind.. This is one of the key reasons why humanity exists in the first place.... To EXPRESS IT'S fears, doubts, joys, wonders, questions.. etc.. If not.. What ARE WE DOING???

I understand the frustration. really I do. But what part of "We are focusing 100% on getting EPIC-X out the door right now.... Let us get through that before we dig into the rest of the roadmap" is unclear ?

Epic X then Epic S, then Scarlet. Sorry but it would be great if every thread didn't fill with Scarlet questions that even Red unfortunately can't answer yet.

I didn't want to post anything in the main thread on the board to avoid interrupting a thread with Scarlet jabber even though certain posts nearly made me post. I have nothing against Epic and Red One users, your work is all great, we learn alot from you, you're leading the front. But please be more understanding. Quit acting like we some annoying teenagers that just want to know every detail down the dot. We've been just as patient as you. Don't post and reply to us jokingly. We're all happy you are getting products you can work with. We just want to know when we will be able to do the same. If we had as much money as all of you we'd be in your shoes. But we don't and are waiting and have been waiting just as patiently.

Haha. All mention of Scarlet should be exiled to Scarletuser.

You do realize no one from the RED team has posted over there for a VERY long time. It really is just a speculation board with 2-3 posts a day at this point. It's dead. Many still cruise/lurk there to try and find something to talk about and it really is dead. The only news over there is from an RSS from RECON. It's mostly people trying to find a reason to stay on board and wait it out. Scarlets will still be RED cameras, we will be "REDUSERS". The topic of the Scarlet may not be relevant in particular threads, but it is relevant here.

You act like we're a joke? Atleast you have a RED to be working with. We're just excited about all the footage we see from you guys. We want something close to the same for our toolbox in our smaller budget range. I could say the same for Epic users, you all do the same...you all post and ask about Epic Progress...where are we at? when will stage 3 commence? comon everyone let us know when you have your camera so I can calculate when mine is coming? Where is my charger? Where is my module? Where is my bomb? I see almost all these questions in every thread. When will my canon mount ship? Where is My Sidehandle? You are just as anxious about your product and post as much jabber as any of those waiting for Scarlets do. Take a look in the mirror. I have a shoot in "...." in 4 days I need my Sidehandle by then because my REDMOTE can't blah blah...

Everyone does the same thing in a different way. I'm not saying you personally David, I'm just saying in general I've seen just as many threads get de-railed by these kinds of questions from Epic Users. Which is why Jarred posted a whole entire product list of modules for you guys. Same with the Canon info.

seriously... Module's thread.... this is a module's thread.... can we PLEASE stay on modules. I don't need to see scarlett in every friggin thread.

We hear about Epics in every thread...even RedCineX threads...I remember a few posts. Usually Epic-x waiting/Epic S lack of knowledge...Roadmap.

So does that make those who have been putting away money for Scarlets since 2008 are less loyal? I know you didn't say that in words but you make it appear as if we don't have as much of a voice here because we haven't given our money to RED yet? I personally have had a Scarlet Savings account since 2008. I know many others that have done the same. I don't expect your Sympathy but show some respect. We all want to buy this camera. We've all allocated money we want to save for this product for. If I go buy a battery and sidehandle can I post questions as Epic users do? Everyone has been waiting. Not just Epic Users. I've emailed RED several times since 2008 attempting to make a deposit. If I could've done it in 2010, I would've. We didn't get the same opportunity as everyone else.

Right now on many threads it feels like Jim is the DAD driving the car and a few people are in the VERY BACK seat yelling "are we there yet???". I don't know if it's annoying for Jim and team but it'e pretty annoying for the people in the seats in the middle of the bus, enjoying the ride.

Again nearly every thread that comes up...There is atleast one person with an Epic asking where there "blank" is or when "blank" will become available. We'd do the same if we had the opportunity i'm sure.

I'm sorry if it seems like I'm attacking anyone. I'm really not. I have respect for all of you but I've noticed many Epic users doing the same things we do in other areas. Realize how blessed you all are. You have the camera of your dreams. We're all still working hard to either get there, or waiting for what we can afford. We're all in this for the same reasons, some make more than others, some work in different fields at the end of the day we all love the same thing. But I felt like I needed to speak up here. Everyone has been nagging RED about everything. Epics, Scarlets, Modules, Mounts, Where's my?, When, etc.

I understand most of the frustration was from where the questions were located. But don't push those waiting for Scarlets to the curb so fast. Many have remained as loyal as those with Epics and Red Ones, we're just waiting for our chance, and haven't had the opportunity others have had yet, and have still stood by and waited. I've been on ScarletUser since 2008, and came over here recently to learn more. This is a great community. Everyone is welcome to there opinions but Epic users have done the same.

+1
REDuser.net is for all of us, ScarletUser.com is dedicated for the 'ToBe' ScarletUsers, like me...
Lets move all to ScarletUser.com and lets also keep an eye on Recon...

Haha. All mention of Scarlet should be exiled to Scarletuser.

Do you think that Red One, EPIC M, EPIC X camera owners are not Scarlet customers too?

This is not an us and them thing, its an "all in due time thing" we are seeing a priority roadmap from RED. In terms of saving or making deposits, it might not be a bad idea to wait until they ask for one.

Most of this is due to phenomenal marketing by RED of a coming soon prototype product.

No one is belittling anyone. I was pointing out that lately it seems that a lack of Scarlet news creates a kind of threadjacking. It's more like "thread stalking", where people follow jim and Jarred posts with Scarlett questions ignoring the thread at hand.

This is also about respect for a community and that means waiting your turn and behaving in a respectful way toward other users on the site. I voiced my concerns respeacefully and the thread was respectfully cleaned.

I'm not going to defend my opinion because it's from the perspective of what I see going on within the website. I'm not commenting on anyone's financial situation becaue that's not my problem and I am not insensitive to that kind of thing.

David

Jeffrey, Kalani, and all other future Scarlet users,

In all fairness to you, there has been a carrot dangling out in front of you since the day Scarlet was announced. It's easy to see where you guys are coming from. This is to be the camera that finally gives shooters in the under $5K range a tool that doesn't limit them intentionally. No doubt, the camera has been harder for RED to bring to market than originally thought, though one could argue the specs have improved in that time. No doubt many of you (and trust me there is a lot of talent out there in this budget range as I have witnessed myself) would have shot a lot of excellent content in that period of time. So, I'm a Red One owner that is sympathetic to what you guys are going through. Heck, I might even be a Scarlet owner some day.

Here's the thing. I have learned over the years that until I can actually buy something and have it shipped within a couple of days, that product really doesn't exist for me. No matter how excited I am about it, I can't plan projects around it, I can't sell services based around it. For example, I have a GH2 that I play around with, shoot small projects with. It's not really setup for pro shooting. A company is making an accessory that will greatly improve the usability of this camera for me for the projects it is appropriate for. When I saw it, I got excited. It actually meant I could step up the camera for projects I wouldn't otherwise. Then I saw that it's not shipping yet. Excitement is temporarily gone. It won't return until I see that I can get it immediately. Then I will think about what projects it can be used on. I think the same has to be applied to Scarlet. Not saying people shouldn't get excited about it because clearly it's more than an accessory for a camera, but realistically it doesn't exist right now. The day it exists is when you see it in the store and you can have one shipped to you right away. Is that a bit of a downer? Yes. But it's reality. With Red One, I think there was something special. RED didn't exist prior to this camera. What they were doing was such a departure from the rest of the industry. From the time I heard about it until the time the camera was in my hands was a considerable wait. But you knew you were buying into something that was going to be well worth the wait. And even still, I didn't plan any projects around it. I didn't even begin selling its services until a few months after I tested it.

I guess some people are giving you guys a hard time because there has been a roadmap set for Scarlet. It's just not what people want to hear I suppose. RED has its hands full with Epic, I would even guess those hands are extremely full because it's not just cameras, it's all the accessories, support, etc that goes along with it. As has been noted, Scarlet will come next. Obviously everything is subject to change. That has been Jim's position from the beginning. There are some things that just don't go according to plan, sometimes for the worse, but often for the better. If it were me in future Scarlet owners shoes, I would consider Scarlet as a future product that doesn't exist right now. I would recommend keeping the money you have saved in the bank earning interest or put it towards a serviceable camera that can gain you experience and hopefully more money while Scarlet development continues. I know you guys have been told that many times and it probably gets old hearing it, but it's the truth. And I will use the Lumix GH2 as an example again. If this was the only camera I could afford to have right now, I would use it to its full capabilities. I would shoot as much as I can, and I would try to get it making me as much money as it can. At about $1500 with some lenses and acc. I should be able to pay for the camera many times over, which some of that money could go into a future camera fund. The only way to get better is to shoot every moment you can. No downtime, especially if you are young, don't have family yet, etc. Not only will you get yourself quicker to a Scarlet, but you might even get yourself to an Epic a lot faster than you think.

Finally, hopefully there is enough mutual respect here between all Redusers that we can understand where each other is coming from without it becoming a divisive community. One way of doing that is avoiding thread derailing. We all do it. I'm amazed when I do it and don't even realize it at first. If the content of the thread will go in another direction, I suggest starting a new thread. Staying on point is what can help make this a much better resource, especially for people who don't visit much but need information.

I imagine that there are surprises in store with Scarlet. I would like to be able to buy some DSMC pieces for Scarlet in the meantime. I wish the side handle had the Scarlet compatibility box checked. Also some of the backpack parts are labeled Epic with no Scarlet compatibility box checked. Would like to know the answers of why not but not at the expense of Epic module announcements.

Thank you for moving these posts.

It's easy for those of us with an EPIC to tell the Scarlet guys to remain calm... After all, we have a shiny new piece of awesomeness to play with. I personally can't wait to get my hands on a fixed Scarlet. I *NEED* that camera. Truth be told, it fits a lot of the production work I do better than a RED One or EPIC ever could. I'll probably be buying two of them.

All we can really do is sit tight and wait. I think John is right, there are surprises in store for Scarlet. We will just have to sit tight until RED unleashes it.

Let's not get carried away with ourselves in this thread. There's already some tension showing and it doesn't help that the thread is rather disjointed anyway due to where it came from.

FSUOTWs as Masochists... ?

FSUOTWs as Masochists... ?

Steve - excellent post; well thought out and articulated. I am relatively new to the Scarlet waiting game as, for me, it's only been two years. lol The thing is, we have had tidbits of hope dangled in front of us from time to time - I even lost a small wager (and I am NOT a betting man!) because I was convinced it would ship last fall. (Stupid me!) We have waited - mostly patiently - but we look for implications and indications in every post from Jim, Jarred, et al. The latest glimmer of hope has been the suggestion that Scarlet will ship after Epic-X is rolling out the door (my interpretation, at least). Well, Epic-X is shipping, so... I guess it is at least a little plausible that Scarlet MIGHT BE close. Now there have been murmurings and innuendo suggesting maybe there might be some sort of a change afoot for Scarlet - again, nothing concrete but enough to get us nervous... and excited at the same time.

Let's face it, after all this time of waiting, any glimmer of hope that it's "around the corner" will set the Future-Scarlet-Users-of-the-World (FSUOTWs?) a-twittering until our pain is eased with a shipping Scarlet. (*sigh*)
