Well this is very disappointing for those of us that have been waiting for the 2/3", but I may have done the same if I had been in their shoes. (Not that I ever will be!) I really thought a RAW capable high-speed 2/3 camera would have had a place in the industry. But perhaps it is too specialist for news, and if you are going to get a crash cam or other cheap camera why not let it be a Canon DSLR of some type? Bottom line is Canon changed the lower end of the game, and Red had to abandon the 2/3" product.
On a side note. I do wonder how many sports photographers will be using Scarlets as stills cameras. 30fps could be really useful for getting impact shots for a sport such as boxing or American Football.
Anyway for under 10K US$ that camera is fantastic. Well done to all the team, thanks for changing the pro market forever.
