Here is a link to the full read and video. Shot mostly with a Zeiss 15.5-45mm LWZ. Badass lens.

Thanks for checking it out!
Any idea when we will get a buck twenty? Need it bad!

Pretty cool, Jared. But the Image looks pretty soft in HD, might want to work on the compression. I watched the behind the scenes too. What other gear did you have it kited out with?

We had a few Zeiss MKII Super Speeds. I think we only used the 18mm. Hit my man Chris Marino up. We are working on a final edit now. I noticed that as well. Got any recommendations?
Thanks!
UPDATE. Put my post team on your question and they are jamming to get a response. I am just a DP. Not so big on the post side of life. I know the lens was sharp.

Look forward to hearing (reading) your thoughts at WOC. Did B&S even bother getting a Canon mount?

How did you guys handle post? CS55? Why did you want to use flat lighting? What would it have been testing?

I usually compress to H264, 1920x1080, 10,000 Mbps, check de-interlance source material (I don't know why this helps when it's coming from a progressive source, but it seems to help), and make sure you are compressing from the highest quality master that you can get. And I'd suggest to do this in Compressor or Quicktime Pro 7, not Adobe Media Encoder. AME seems to be terrible with H264.

We went flat for the High Speed stuff that we never got. We had a little topper in there. We did not need to see much more than skin tones for this one. We are going to get some other exterior footage soon. Thanks for checking it out!

or it could be that your windowing a lot on the sensor to get 60 fps. if ppl remember what 2k remembered from the r1 mx, it was always just kind of bleh. windowing is a huge compromise imho. anymore than 3k and i really don't even think it's worth it.

So exactly whats going on here. Is the 2k a center crop getting blown up? I would assume the relative sharpness would remain the same given delivery size of the frame. This is just plain soft...no saving that image if thats not what your looking for.

I would wager that for most the draw of Scarlet is less about 4k and more about un(or barely) compressed raw clarity and frame speed vs. a camera like the c300. This cam needs to run crisp at 2K 60.
Cannot wait to get mine and it'll be a nice additional cam to my Epic shoots, but if its crazy soft and/or noisy at 60 it'll be a bit of a disappointment given the current options.

I think shooting at 2K on Red tends to just demand more sharpening. This includes the OLPF compensation setting. This isn't that the OLPF isn't designed for 2K- it's designed around the photosite size- but that you have less overall data to work with for delivery at HD than if you're coming from 4K. Adjusting the OLPF compensation sharpening and judicious use of more selective sharpening tools can help avoid that softness.

Just my 2¢

I helped to online this cut. It was a 2K time line out put to ProRes 444 2k. I encoded for the web using the latest build of Sorenson Squeeze 8 and x264 at 10,000Kbs. Here's a .tiff of the ProRes 444 2K next to the x264 1080. We're talking a 2.5GB file down to 95MB via x264.
