  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet and Steadicam?

OK, so here someone is running:

Terry, I don't understand you... to balance on a moving skateboard is much harder than just panning around an actor...

Notice how they write that's its their "first try"

Its awkward your thinking, why would you spend $3-5K for a lens, but only $3k for the support of it, that support being made only to hold 10pounds.

Why spend $5k instead of $2k (or $10k instead of $5k) for the exact same thing? Thats awkward...

Go Nikons or Canons when you need to shoot Scarlet on a Steadicam Pilot, once you move to the flyer, then get some cinema lenses...

I guess you were addressing this to me...

As I mentioned, I am, at least initially, going for the fixed lens Scarlet so, in my case, the lens issue has already been decided. And, in all honesty, $3K - 5K cinema lenses aren't in my future for the moment. Yes, probably Canons if I do evolve to the S35. The work I am doing right now doesn't justify an $8-10K stabilizer - nor do I think (hope?) I will end up needing it.

Did I misinterpret your post?

Wait, lenses or Steadicams?

No directly at you, but at Tom whom you quoted a few posts ago.

But you are correct, work doesn't justify you buying a 10k Steadicam, so in the same sense work doesn't justify you buying Cinema Lenses...

The Exact scenario I was talking about, if you don't have enough work to afford a Flyer, why buy Cinema Lenses to try and fly on a Pilot. When you move to the Flyer, then think about heavier lenses

I get it... you're a Glidecam fan. I'll be sure and try one before I make a decision.

As to the skateboard thing, I don't see it being about balance, I see it being about smooth movement. Sure, if you can't skateboard worth a crap, you'll have a problem (with any kind of stabilizer). But once you are comfortable and balanced on the skateboard, then you are ROLLING which, more or less by definition, is smooth. Not saying it doesn't take skill and practice, just that it is hard to tell how much effect the Glidecam is having.

Like I said, I'll look forward to trying out a few when I get my Scarlet. (But probably not on a skateboard.)

It's great to know what other people are using and what they like. Thanks!

Glidecam products blow. I owned the V20 and it was horrible! Took forever to setup, lots of jerky bumps when walking. I'm no steadicam expert but it's not rocket science either. I spent numorous hours with tech support and that wasn't much help. Following year I atteneded NAB and fell in love steadicam. By far better product.

I also owned the actioncam for a few months, it was nice but I wasn't a fan of their vest.

How many years ago was that? This model is discontinued...
