  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet and Epic BUILD 4 BETA

Any chance we could get record mode toggle as an option to program to a key? So we could cycle through continuous recording, timelapse, ramping.

Thanks RED is is a great update with a good number of the things I was wishing for and a lot more besides. I've had a few issues after install but things usually settle down once I've gone through everything. Looking forward to the final release candidate of this one!

The speed ramp will attempt to maintain the current shutter speed at the start of the ramp.

Are you asking if there is a way to maintain a constant shutter angle throughout the ramp?

Yes, I think so :)

Example: ramp from 25 Fps to 100 Fps with constant exposure by keeping same shutter speed.

25fps 1/100 th
100fps 1/100 th

Ps: its Christmass indeed!

Time lapse alone? Why not a cheap DSLR for time lapse?

My reasons: I use PL lenses and I want to match the look. I also want to use a Mysterium X sensor and RED's color science and I don't want to deal with thousands of photos. It's much easier to work with a single .r3d.

There are various internal components being powered off (including the circuitry in the monitor paths - which is why you see the monitors turn off). However, the fans must still run as we cannot turn everything off and still wake up quickly. If you have the fans in auto mode you should see the fans slow down if in sleep mode for longer durations as the camera cools down.
Maybe sleep mode should override the manual settings, and put the fans to the lowest appropriate speed?

What is the concern with the fans still being active in sleep mode? The noise? The power to turn the fans?

Could some sort of power saving mode or ability to turn off the display be enabled in time-lapse? It would be great to be able to run time-lapse for a couple hours without needing AC.

The camera currently works as you've described in your example. It will maintain constant exposure, if possible, throughout the ramp.

감사합니다... TO THE RED TEAM FOR ALL THEIR HARD WORK!!!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO THE RED COMMUNITY AROUND THE WORLD!!!

OK, I really really don't like to sound like the Grinch... it's a great build, a bunch of amazing new features, I'm sooooo tempted to use it for the occasional production that could really benefit from the features... thank you guys, you rock!

But..

Does anyone else think the way RED have implemented long exposures *feels* like a real kludge? I mean, I appreciate giving us the fine-grained control over the details of the process, but that should be a *choice*, not compulsory... just expand the damn shutter speed scale up to 15s or whatever, why not???

That's what I'm going to *want* to do maybe 90% of the time... just set an integration time, plain and simple, like a D4, not fart around with different modes and work out weirdness. And I suspect I'm not alone.

Anyone at RED who can unlock the Scarlet firmware 4 beta for me? We have a Scarlet...not sure why it's not allowing us to download even after signing in. Our sn is 3211.

I sent a ticket in, too. Let me know if anyone is around and can unlock it for us.

Thanks.

Bouhhh i can't download de BETA firmware until the entire process of ownership changement has been done...seem's i can't acces to DL buton..
I'm now owner of a scarlet X #00658 here in france, any idea ? A link possible ? Many thanks

Thank you for the new build.

Is it possible to have the video also flip AND mirror? Not just the UI? Or am I misunderstanding something.

Mike - I had a similar reaction to long exposures. I can handle technical setups but I really just don't want to sometimes.

What is the concern with the fans still being active in sleep mode? The noise? The power to turn the fans?
No big concern to me, but ... if they are at the lowest level possible, they will probably eat less power.

And it would give immediate feedback (besides the monitors turning off) that it is in sleep mode?

Problem I'm seeing with the new build is sometimes when you change between RAW and Color. You get this weird "matrix" movie looking color space in RAW, and the COLOR turns milky. A quick reboot fixes that. But the biggest problem I'm seeing is that it's not letting me look at false color or any of my assists like edge, focus, exposure, video? Im sending a support ticket, and a log report to you guys to check this out.

Edit fixed the tools problem. But RAW and COLOR still has the problem ever now and then.

Can anyone share their opinion on this with me?

'It depends' :)

Does what you're shooting call for a ramp? Or some other 4.x feature?

How tight is the schedule?

Do you have a spare body?

Can you tolerate the time-out to force a downgrade, blackshade etc. if it all goes pear-shaped?

If I *needed* something in the build, *and* could tolerate failure, yes, I'd use it for just those shots. But it's a beta; can always bite your bum in unexpected ways. And I'd damn well get DIT to review each shot with a fine tooth comb before we wrapped.

The 'Tools' checkbox on the Monitor Tab of the Monitor Control Dialog is what determines if the various false color modes appear on a particular monitor. Please check the setting for the monitor you are using.
