  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet and Epic BUILD 4 BETA

Thanks Trent! Will try it right away!

UPDATE: works nicely :) thanks so much for adding this!

Awesome new features! Thanks Red for continuing to improve an already brilliant camera......What exactly does "Selectable LCD Frequency" do? Does it address some issues with the OLED/EVF?

Sleep mode does more than just LCD Sleep.
Can you say a little more about what should happen with the camera in sleep mode pls? My fans are still busily humming away as if the system is still operating at full power.

120 fps for Scarlet

120 fps for Scarlet

Any chance we can get a New Year surprise and enable the Scarlet to shoot higher frame rates (like 120 fps at 4k) now that the REDONE is slowly being phased out?

It allows you to select the update rate of the LCD (either 30Hz or 60Hz I believe). The higher refresh rate should fix any 'jittering' problems when panning at a higher frame rate.

Still no Auxillary Power on the PRO i/O...????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Can you elaborate on the problem you are having? There has always been Auxillary Power on the PRO I/O. You can enable/disable it from the Power Dialog (Power Out tab).

There are various internal components being powered off (including the circuitry in the monitor paths - which is why you see the monitors turn off). However, the fans must still run as we cannot turn everything off and still wake up quickly. If you have the fans in auto mode you should see the fans slow down if in sleep mode for longer durations as the camera cools down.

Great FW update.
Thanks a lot RED team!
The NEW camera thing made true!

+1 ?

The speed ramp will attempt to maintain the current shutter speed at the start of the ramp.

Are you asking if there is a way to maintain a constant shutter angle throughout the ramp?

thanks for the great update red.....i'm hoping new overlays and calibration time speedup will be the best for me...

Did anyone notice that with this new build, the 5" touch screen looks sharper? It always looked soft on the previous builds.

Trent, I noticed some issues, which are repeatable on my SCARLET:

After 1:1 magnify, changing the ISO doesn't change the picture or the histogram anymore.

When coming back from playback, after shooting and playing back a trigger record sequence, I get 3 broad stripes with color noise which only go away by unplugging, and plugging the touch lcd (5") back in.

When viewing any one of the test signals, the UI freezes up right when the LCD shows the selected one. Only the real tactile buttons still work (the "back" button on the SH doesn't do anything in this state) - have to power down

Also the frequency for the 5" touch switches down to 30 frequently ... still have to figure out though when exactly it does that.

Feature Request:
Not sure if this is enabled, and I can't find it, but it would be great, if the RECORDING MODE would be saved in a preset.

Yes, I was wondering this myself. Can you make it start at 180 degrees for 24fps and then remain at 180 degrees when it ramps to 60fps (ie shutter speed from 1/48th to 1/120th simultaneously with the fps jump)?

Also, how many people are heeding the forewarning to not go into commercial shoots with this beta version??? Is it that likely to mess up a shoot that I should avoid this entirely anyways for the time being?

Ramping allows you to dynamically change the FPS during a record. For example, you could set your FPS to 24FPS, your ramp FPS to 100FPS and a ramp duration of 2 seconds. When you start recording you will be at 24FPS. When you start ramping (by assigning a key to the appropriate action) the FPS will change two 100FPS over a duration of 2 seconds. When you end the recording your FPS reverts back to 24.
Notes:
- Your REDcode will be limited by the max frame rate (it is not dynamic)
- There is no way to ramp back down
- Your frame rate will return back to normal after the record has ended

How does this work in the Scarlet? Are you only able to use this feature in 2K or 3K mode?

Still waiting for the cameras front logos to start emitting the same red glow as the skulls in "Goonies";)

Wondering about Separate Audio Channel Set Up -

Does this mean that I can have mic input number one record to two channels, one high and one low, for High Dynamic Range Audio (TM)? Love doing this trick on other cams.
