How difficult would it be to push 3k mode to 60p? Is it entirely out of the question? Cropping down to 1080 x 1920 (I would guess roughly 2/3" size area) would kill DOF for slow motion shots. Could it be pulled off with a 2.5k mode?

cropping wouldn't do anything to your depth of field... just your field of view. i'm confused what you're asking about. it probably could be looked into, as far as hardware is concerned. i'm sure they'll try it.

paulherrin, cropping will make the DOF deeper with same framing because it shows smaller area from the image. Just like using same lens with FF and APSC DSLR, APSC will have deeper DOF.

While that is correct. It wouldn't change your DOF if you keep the same lens. But since the FOV changes, you'd change lenses to compensate for that FOV change, and thus result in a different DOF.

okay cool, david says it a lot better than i could. i see what you were getting at. i'm all for a 2.5k mode. we're just gonna have to learn which lenses to use when we window down, though. there was some talk at one point about doing scaling for output, but that would not allow you to shoot higher framerates (probably the opposite).

on a side note, with better resolution and high shutter speeds we can probably get some really good results from things like twixtor. course i'd certainly rather have the real thing and save some post work whenever possible. if you're really needing some slo-mo stuff, look into renting or borrowing an epic. if you've got just one really cool shot you want to do, you'd be surprised how people will help you out sometimes if their camera isn't busy (i'm speaking about individuals, not rental houses). of course, if you can get it budgeted in, please pay them!
