I finally caught up with Scarlet #1534, 'Katusha' (named after my grandmother, Katherine, not after the rocket).
She arrived some weeks ago, and it has taken me this long to catch up with her. Ti Canon mount, SO 51515, and a very helpful and understanding Bomb Squad team member, Andrea Dondanville. Thanks, RED Team !
Katusha seems to be mostly OK. She showed up with what looks like the Flare Guard installed & firmware 2.0.5. I upgraded to 3.0.0 (the firmware upgrade seems to have gone well).
But Katusha arrived with an attitude: she wouldn't abide by either 25fps or 30fps (no matter what compression, under 4KHD, or 3K, any shutter speed, etc.). The fps showed up in yellow/orange text on the 5.6"monitor I have, while the DSMC handle showed 23.XX with either 25 or 30fps showing (in yellow/orange) on the monitor. I did not even attempt capturing footage at 25 or 30. This syndrome manifested itself under 2.0.5 & I was hoping 3.0.0 would cure it -- but it didn't. Reloaded 3.0.0 twice. Same results. Still no 25 or 30fps.
The good news is that 24fps is OK (... but anything north of 24fps is a 'no go.')
I use the RODE mic (SVM) with a 'Y' cable that splits the stereo off into two mono channels. The 3.0.0 settings seem to default to UNBALANCED (which is what you need) and Analog. I needed to boost the sensitivity up from the default 10db to about 45db. Sound so far is OK, but I only had a chance to do one or two tests. I'll try Sennheiser lavs in the next day or so.
Have Build 12 of RCX on an ancient MacBook Pro (2.33GHz Core 2 Duo). Runs OK as long as I don't debayer more than 1/16th, which is OK with me. I've set the camera to REDcolor3. And set RCX to REDlogFilm vice REDcolor3. But I haven't gotten enough footage to really form an opinion as to this combo.
So, full 4K at 24fps and 6:1 with sound ... all looks pretty good. Need help with 25 & 30fps. I've logged a trouble ticket with RED. Could be cockpit error. Kinda hope it is.
And if you have comments on recommended settings (even ones not mentioned above), I'd appreciate them. There are a ton of options as you go through the menus.
(Anyone else seeing the 25 & 30fps problem ?)
Thanks all !
