[FS: RED Cameras] SCAM ALERT!! RED Epic MX & Raven

[Hector M. Sanchez Jr]

The account Andreas Bru Eide, has been hacked. Last week I saw he was selling a RED Epic MX for $5000, and I contacted the account to make the purchase. The account forward me over to a person named Ramek Sims, who sent me a invoice with all the camera information, including the serial number. We negated the price down to $4800, and I sent the money over a wire transfer (I Know I'm a idiot). Soon after the money had cleared, communication completely stopped. The last email I got from Ramek Sims, was that the camera was shipped on Monday, but he never sent me a tracking number. After 2 days, I contacted Andreas, and he gave me a whole story, but that I should receive the camera by Friday. Friday came and went, and I never received anything. I kept emailing both Andreas, and Ramek, but no replies. The last email I got was from the FAKE Andreas, which was...

Hello Hector,

Sorry for the inconvenience. Ramek is definitely on set. We was driving to different film locations and moving cranes, and other heavy equipment to different locations. Last time I spoke to and saw Ramek was Monday night. But he did ship out the Epic MX because I was there waiting for him in de truck. Estimated delivery date is Friday. I will try and get in touch with him now, his calls were going to voicemail yesterday and earlier so maybe his phone is off. William cant get in contact with him either. He also was suppose to be attending a funeral this week. I don?t know if its today or it was yesterday. I will mail you once I get an update on dis for you.

Best Regards,
Andreas

After doing some massive amount of research, I discovered the real Andreas Bru Eide, and contacted him. He lives in Norway, not Kansas. I told him whats been going on, and he's in complete shock. At the moment, he is trying to regain access to his REDUSER account, because it has been hacked. Ramek Sims has a IMDB account, but after research, and contacting the DP's that are listed on his IMDB, I have discovered, he doesn't even exist. The photos on his IMDB where stolen from a instagram account that is owned by a 24 year old film student from Brazil named Giovani.

This really sucks, but lessoned learned. Please stay safe out there. I will leave links to the threads that have the cameras.

Sorry to hear of this.. I always say "Never pay by wire" Use ebay, paypal or any escrow service. I know the 3% sucks that paypal charges but you have a source to assist in the case of fraud. And never do the friend and family route of sending funds on paypal. Business services with a invoice of the products and services. I have buying items like a madman on Reduser and (knock on wood) no issues. Every last item has been funded by Paypal.

I passed on a seemingly great deal for a Armorman 2/Movi combo on FB because the guy insisted I pay via wire.

Never the less, I hope you recover your funds.

Wow, this takes scams on this site to a whole new level, thanks for the heads up. As a potential future buyer on here, can I suggest admins add 2fa to logins?

Yeah I will definitely never pay by wire again. I had bought my Scarlet X on here, but I took the extra step by having the seller give me a demonstration over Skype that time. For some reason, in this situation, seeing there prior post history was enough for me. Now it's always going to be a strict rule that we have to talk in person over skype or facetime, where they have to show me the equipment working.

Yeah no problem, the scam was really damn impressive, I cant even argue you that. I also agree, REDuser should really add a 2 step verification on to the site. It would drastically help, and lower the possibilities of this happening.
