  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

curious if EVEN number of SCALE has any impact on processing speed?

for example - if we take 4K 2:1 and put it in REDCINE for OUTPUT to 1920 x 1080 and select FIT TO HIGHT - we see the SCALE X & Y are 52.734 % -

so, would we see any real impact (of a HUGE job using FULL 4K debayer) by using CUSTOM SHOT FRAMING OF 54 % (which give a wee bit of Y pan and scan if wanted) ??

am I splitting hairs here ...?

Graeme ...?

I didn't write the scaling for RedCine so I don't know. Scaling by factor 1/2 or 1/3 is generally easier in terms of coding than an arbitrary scale, but as I say, I didn't write that bit of code, and empirical evidence would be best - have you tested it to see?

was hoping you'd save me the time - he he he

I'll test and report back - gonna assume it's pretty damn insignificant, but with full 4K debayer on one hour worth of media ... you never know, I am curious -

Graeme,

Wavelet based compression is one of the "High-Tech" solutions Jim & his RED team included in the REDONE. It's one of the reasons I purchased two REDONE's

I am under the impression that Wavelet compression is the most advanced and most efficient type of "Video" compression available today. I Know that Snell and Wilcox uses this compression scheme in many "High-end" Expensive converters, the Alchemist for one.

Can you comment on Wavelet based compression?

Thanks
Dave

Scaling (except for scaling in the output tab!) is done on the GPU, so we really don't take a hit (since it's faster than real time). However, the more things you do the slower everything gets. You don't get much for free :)

David: not sure how it relates to scaling, but yes is the answer to your post
