Scaling 2K to 4K

Just wondering if anyone has dealt with scaling 2K footage up to 4K for a transfer to 35mm. If so, what was the process and how did it turn out?

Is there any point to upscaling Red 2k? What does that achieve? 2k film transfers are more common (& less expensive) than 4k anyway, aren't they?

If you had super crisp 2k CG elements where jaggy edges might be an issue, I could see upscaling having some benefit, but one thing Red images do not have is jaggies.

The June issue of American Cinematographer has an article on Page 82 about a complete end to end 4K post on a 3D IMAX film where they shot the underwater in digital and scaled up in a Lowry process to 4K.
