Why might I get a sata trans error whilst recording?

So far it has occured during about 30% of the time I hit record. I thought it might have something to do with the position of the drive?

I only started getting the message after installing Build 20, but only with Arri Zeiss super speed lenses. And only with hot exposures. I was shooting a woman at sunrise in a field of tall grass with morning light spilling round her. Also when I shot a child with a balloon against a huge water fountain. On both I was even F-16 but with super speeds. It seems when there is a lot of light and information to be captured by either the drive or the sensor through fast lenses, the error happens. I never get the error with slower lenses (Cooke 2.8 or Angenieux zooms or the RED lenses. To clear the error message and reshoot just use the exit button and go with less light. Definitely an issue the RED folks need to address. Hope this helps.

If you are seeing SATA_TRANS error you need to schedule an inspection of your RED-DRIVE with RED tech support.

Meanwhile you can mitigate this by requesting Build 20 v20.1.6 from RED tech support or you can use BETA Build 21.

I got it all morning on a shoot 2 weeks ago on high up above Squaw Valley. Cold, bright and first day of "real" shooting with the new camera.

I did another shoot this weekend (Just got home 45 minutes ago) with no SATA errors. But as soon as the transfer is done off the drive, it is heading back down south to Lake Forest for a good looking over.

Mine is the new 640Gb drive if that matters.

Oh, and my Mac Book Pro (last gen) saw the drive the first time I did a transfer just fine, but since then tells me it is unrecognized, and want to eject or format it! PC recognizes it us fine.

Yup bring it down Scott.. Its an easy update we can do pretty quick to make sure you never see those again :)

Haley got me hooked up as far as getting it fixed, but I had a shoot this weekend, so decided to hack thru it till this got done, then send it down your way. Should be in a box on truck Wednesday, if the transfer thru the PC onto the Mac goes smoothly.

And Jarred, what is your avatar, if I may ask.....
