  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I was driving the bus on this and then I got really busy, maybe it was that new camera I got :biggrin:

Maybe after NAB and the release of build 16 we should have a get together.

Just to get things rolling I'll propose April 26th.

April 26th sounds good, looks like I'm in town that day. (Should have my camera any day now :biggrin: ). Depending on how much space we might need, I could offer up San Diego Production Centre as a location.

Yes, its me... hope your auditions were successful! we should continue our conversation too, sounds like we can be good resources for eachother.
 
Got here late. Am in SD until around Wednesday 28th May. My camera will be left here with a friend who really wants to understand this system some more. Hanging out with a REDUser group in SD would be his ideal opportunity to learn, plus he would be teaching me some stuff when I pass back through SD.

While it is always great to hang with local RedHeads, it can be tough to get critical mass when everyone is busy and there isn't anything specific on the agenda. That's my best rationalization for not making a better effort to pump up the SD Red Collective, well that, and I suck.

That said, I actually have an action item that might get people off the couch, or perhaps the bar stool :turned: , and to a meeting-

Unless somebody has a stash under their bed there is very little modern cine PL glass in San Diego and AFAIK LA is the closest place to rent it. For features or longer shows getting lenses out of LA is easy enough but for one or two day spots, pick ups, etc it kinda blows.

Rather than each of us going deeper into debt to buy our own lenses I am proposing a co-op of some sort to get a set of primes and a zoom or two to live right here in SD.

Blair, I'm definitely interested in a co-op or collective for RED users in SD. I'm actually working on a web app that will allow ReadHeads in to post what equipment we want to share, when it is available, crew availability, etc..

I'm not getting my RED until September-ish, and hoping to launch the site then. In the meantime, I'm in SD and would love to get together with other REDdies...

Long time no see Blair. Bet your van is more tricked out than when I checked it out at LART. I'll be in San Diego for at least a week this month and it would be cool to meet up with you and other S.D. REDHeads.

I think a Co-Op is a good idea. Lets talk about this when we get a meeting going.

Just an FYI for everyone-There's a guy by the name of Gene Sive (www.genesive.com) who runs a rental gig in Carlsbad. I've been using him for all my camera/grip/lights rentals for a while now and he's got pretty much everything you need, including the newest model of Zeiss Super Speeds.

He's a great guy and tires really hard to work with you on projects. Give him a hollar if you need. (760) 798-1106 office number.

I'll be in the San Diego area most of next week. Blair, if you're not on the road and you can set up a meeting, I'll definitely attend, along with one of my RED camera systems.

Monday evening the 18th at my studio in Little Italy, second choice would be the next night.

I am thinking a 6pm start time but that could be pushed later.
