  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Samyang/Rokinon 35mm and 85mm lens test

Wow! Did I get it wrong from the specs? It must have been a DX or something tag that fooled me :)
Do you have a VDSLR version?

Reading previous posts in this thread, I think there is a bit of confusion rolling out a Samyang set in front of a client used to MPs or Panchros. But I guess it will pass, if the manufacturer will keep and improve the specs, performance and build quality. Personally in my case, I would love to have this lenses with a PL-mount...
The 16 is designed for an APSC sized sensor and not full frame, but it makes sense that it might cover 5K Because 5K is not full frame.... (1.3x crop).

What price point would people accept as a PL mount conversion? I mean I can't see a conversion costing any where less than 500 bucks and that's practically the cost of the lens. Price could be lowered if it was sold as a do it yourself kit.

I think he means that there's a big jump between 35mm and 85mm focal lengths. Deakins was going on about how, despite using primes, he would always want a full set (21mm, 24mm, 27mm, 32mm, 35mm, etc.), whereas for me usually 18, 25, 35, 50, 85 is enough as my eye is not that well-trained. And generally I just use zooms.

Deakins quote:

Question: If you have 5 set of lens, what focal length are they?

Roger: If restricted to 5 lenses I would carry the 50, 40, 35, 32, 27 but I would usually carry a 65, 25, 21 and 18mm.

Question: I notice Roger that you select both the 32 and 35, only three mm apart. Do you find such a minimal difference to be often of importance? (as opposed to slightly adjusting the cameras physical position).

Roger: Very important. Moving the camera in on a 32mm is quite different from shooting on a 35mm. I would have a set of lenses which covered every focal range millimeter by millimeter if it were practical.
