From the website:
"LEE Joon-dong, acting chairman of KOFIC, announced the results of several KOFIC supported projects to the approximately 100 industry professionals in attendance. Technological advancements that were presented include DMLITE’s ‘LUMOS Glow Panel 400C’ as well as a new high quality anamorphic lens created by Samyang Optics that comes at a price that is 50% lower than similar products offered by foreign competitors."

Samyang, finally!

"50% lower than similar products offered by foreign competitors."

This is really broad. What competitors? Zeiss Master Anamorphics at 50k/lens?

Anyway... lets hope they come out with some nice glass at a nice price point. Looking forward as well.

I'll volunteer for the first set. Rokinon lenses were good bang for the buck. I hope this is the same!

Yeah, but there is something wonderful about the unattainability of anamorphic lenses. The only thing that stops it from being a completely overused gimmick is the price point barrier.

Yeah I have thought about this as well. Hopefully the price will be still high enough, so it does not become a gimmick like Time-lapse, gymbals, drones, slowmotion,...
Allthough there is this new trend of new filmmakers that only shoot AF (A7III, C200, ...) They will never buy anamorphic or manual lenses.

Saw this today. Definitely hope it's front anamorphic, but if the price is right, it'd still be kinda cool (you still get the bokeh and the focal length benefits with rear anamorphics, right?) Also, hope they have stills versions (e.g. $500 anamorphics that cover FF35/VV would be quite disruptive).

But yeah, judging by the picture, it doesn't look to be PL mount and, unfortunately, it does seem to be rear-anamorphic (the front element seems quite spherical...

Front element being spherical doesn't mean it's rear anamorphic. all of the Master, Scorpio and Atlas anamorphics have a "spherical" front element and none of them have anamorphic in the back.

I don’t mean spherical in shape (though it is), but that it looks like the element behind the front isn’t ovalish at all either. Granted it is hard to be 100% certain by that pic.

And why would an element in anamorphic lens be oval? (since this isn't a medical forum I assume that's what you meant)

It would be an oval because it’s 2x taller than its width (just look down the barrel of any 2x front anamorphic lens and you’ll know what I mean)... whereas spherical would be equal tall/wide...

As for “ovular”, is that bad English (being that “oval” is egg shaped)?... oval-ular? Ovalish... oval-shaped? Feel free to take your pick! I switched to ovalish because that didn’t give an autocorrect suggestion.

SLR Magic released an anamorphic adapter, but it's dual focus and it has a 1.33x squeeze. I wish I could be impressed:

I'm surprised that Lomography hasn't done anything anamorphic. I told them a couple of years ago to release an M mount camera with anamorphics (even if there was no rangefinder). The lenses could be T4 or T5.6 as long as they were good quality. They haven't listened, it seems, and are more interested in lo-fi Instax Dianas right now.

Would be great if Samyang could give us a release date. Or even what year, that would be great.
