  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Samyang 24/1.4 coming

I'm all over this lens. In my opinion, they need to make a 50mm 1.4, redo the 85mm 1.4 and make a 100mm 1.4. Then rehouse them all like the CP primes.

The 35mm is my favorite lens (I also have the 85mm 1.4). I'm interested in picking up both the 8mm and the 14mm. I will definitely be picking up this 24mm, and hopefully the 50mm (which has been rumored to be 1.2, but I'd be fine with 1.4) comes so I can replace the terrible Canon 50mm 1.4.

All Rokinon future!

Hello, it's been coming since August, but now

http://www.lenstip.com/1965-news-Samyang_24_mm_f_1.4_ED_AS_UMC_-_sample_images.html

seems like it's finally getting close

Based on my experience with the 35 and 85/1.4, I highly recommend them to everyone, because the Canon still lenses are not acceptable from an AC point of view
---> my Canon 24/1.4 goes to eBay soon

Would you plese eleborate more detail, why the AC point of view are not acceptable for the canon still lenses ?

Thank you.

Probably that they have very short focus throws and many lack hard stops at infinity and the close focus distance. This makes it harder to do a precise, repeatable focus pull. They can also be thin on numbers of focus markings.

Conversely, the Samyang/Rokinon lenses generally have very long and smooth focus throws, hard stops, and plenty of markings.

Thank you a lot Harrison for clear out for me.

@ Jack.....No they are not rehoused canon glass.

They are made by a Korean company using precision cadcam design principals. These lenses compare favourably to the Zeiss Ze lenses. Duclos lenses did a comparison between the 35mm f1.4 & its korean equivalent. makes for interesting reading. I think Jeffrey has already posted the link.

What are cadcam design principles.....the use of CAD?
Sorry but that sounds like what a Chinese eBay company would advertise.....

Nothing against samyang.....I will probably pick a few of them up as well.

@ Mike

What I was implying in my own dumb way was that with mass modern precision manufacturing techniques including lenses allows for a far higher degree of accuracy then previously obtainable.

From memory (always dangerous) Samyang were in the business of making specialised lenses for security cameras & they figured they could also do lenses for a larger market. These lens are not like the sigma lenses of old. Speaking of which I believe Sigma lens quality has vastly improved using these same manufacturing techniques.

Very promising. There is some CA but limited. Sharp, seems like low distortion... an other step in the right direction. Wonder about breathing and mechanics feel. I'd like to see them make a f/1.4 50mm, no need to waste time with a faster single, make them all match f/1.4 is enough
