This could be interesting, hard to know until you test it out..

I like it that Samyang / Rokinon offer mechanically decent lenses with manual iris's at a low cost. The 24, 35 and 85 are my 3rd world sandstorm set, for jobs where it does not make sense to bring the expensive stuff. I'll consider adding the Cine version of the 16mm if it tests OK.

How can they make a 2.0 16mm and the quite recent zeiss 15mm doesn't come further then 2.9 for way more money...

Not a full frame.
I would rather use Tokina or new Sigma 18-35/1.8 but i no longer invest in non full frame.

Rokinon cine version soon?

I will avoid buying any of their lenses unless they come out with real update on 50mm (instead of fake promises).

Well.. I think the issue is zeiss COULD make a 15mm f2, but their model is usually to make the highest quality lenses they can. Probably just couldn't make a 15mm f2 that looked amazing from f2 on that wouldn't have been even more money and size than the 15mm f2.8 already is.

It's for Low Cost Canon mount crowd.. no need to compare with the expensive and very good Zeiss 15mm 2.8 or anything else that costs more than a set of new tires. I am also curious about the Sigma 18-35 1.8, but suspect loose AF mechanics and not liking that it lacks a manual iris.

+1

I would love a Cine 50mm before a 16mm. Why so close to the 14mm?

I know its t3.1 but come on, release the 50mm please :)

What's with the fixation on the 50mm? It must be the easiest and cheapest lens to get on ebay. There a gazilion 50mm lenses out there. Every flavor. Are you worried about color matching on $400 Rokinon lenses? Seriously?

It took me about 2 minutes on ebay ;)

Jacek did you notice we almost middle of 2013 (lol). Above method is a super ghetto version from mid-evil time. This remind me my 35mm adopter for DVX100 (built from homedepot plumbing dept. - lol)

This conversion look best so far (if anyone want to choose that route);

If you think that a $400 lens will make you look more pro than a $100 lens maybe it's time to reconsider your career ;) And it's medieval BTW
Good job Samyang! 16mm f2 is a good choice
There is no place for f2.8 or slower primes in 2013 ;)

Looks Pro? Hummmm...what was the topic again?
BTW, I am a pre-med student (2nd Major, just doing it for fun)

I guess you never play Midevil 2005 (Bad to the Bone)

Again, can we get back to the topic SAMYANG (lol)

thanks Jacek for the tips, however Id like to stay with the build and solid feel of the Rokinons for now.

since Im new to this and Ive learned my lens handling with the Cine line, Id like to stay there till I can afford a PL mount and real PL lenses or maybe CP.2s :)

ive been playing with a Zeiss 50mm and love it.

I would like to avoid paying 700 for one.

I can wait till a Cine version comes out :)

I'm not saying they should not build the 50- I'm just saying that 50 is a lot easier to fill in for now than 16mm. how many 16mm f2s are there?
None I know of..
That's why it's a better decision to launch it first before 50 because their 50 would be competing with multiple options and scrutinized against them- the 50 Zeiss, the 50 Leica, the 50 Canon, Sigma, Tamron, Nikon, Vivitar, Minolta, Pentax, Contax and who knows how many more..
Their 16mm f2 is on it's own- much easier to sell.
Plus they are motivating competition to make wider faster lenses.
What's wrong with that?
You'll get your 50 in due time- anyway that's the most boring FL of all...
And, BTW, I wouldn't associate plastic lenses with the term "solid feel" in the same sentence...;)
