Hiya,

We have a Sachtler Video 20 S1 with this quick release plate: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/78924-REG/Sachtler_1064_Camera_Plate_16_Touch.html

We also have a beautiful large format camera 8x10 that we want to put on the tripod. But the 8x10s holes are a bit too wide apart for it to fit with on quick release plate. We need another 5mm or so. How do I actually solve this?

Do I put another plate on the camera and then attach it to the Sachtler tripod, or? Something like a dovetail, cheese plate, or? Any tips on how to screw them together. So far all our equipment "just fit".

I would suggest going the cheese plate road.

First, check that the hole spacing on the camera will match hole spacing on a plate.
(If they are non-standard, you may need to get a piece of metal machined)

Next, check the threads in the holes on the camera - should be 1/4-20 threads, might be 3/8-16.
Note: Make sure the cheese plate has chamfered holes.
Obtain the right screws (length / thread / slope on head) so that the screws will bottom out keeping a flat surface on both sides of the plate and have enough threads to secure the camera.

Affix the plate to the camera first - (plate chamfers facing down) then attach the touch & go at approximate COG.

Ready to go...

Note: Best to determine the correct placement of the tilt handle before mounting the camera. The knob at the top by the rosette may interfere.

Good luck!

Thanks a lot for the help guys. Very informative. I will do some measurements and research and see what I come up with!
Cheers!

Hi Andreas,

I think you need this Camera Plate. Does have only 2 slots to let you to slide Camera for better Balance.
Let me know if you want more help.
